Okay, so we were never actually in any kind of perilous predicament, or in danger of losing our lives, ....but we did catch a lot of crabs!!!
It was the last day of the crabbing season, Labor Day Weekend, on the scenic Hood Canal in the Western Puget Sound of Washington State. The capable crew of Bob Stewart, Jonathan Washburn, my oldest son, Ben, and Yours Truly, set sail for a three-hour tour.... uh, wait a minute...that's a different tale!
We spent a good part of the afternoon motoring around the Hood Canal to where our crab pots were submerged, about 120 feet down. We pulled up 4 pots, and limited out with 20 legal sized male Dungeness crabs.
Then it was off to Pleasant Harbor to grab some munchies and soak up some rays.....
Jonathan provides the 'Play-by-Play' as Ben skillfully demonstrates the art of cleaning a crab!
Last Spring, it was The Great White Clam Hunters....this past Summer, it was King of the Crabs....What, pray tell, is next for our adventurous crew?
Mana: Truth be known, we went back to my place, and boiled them all up! Bob & Jonathan totally porked out and conversed with my wife, while Yours Truly languished in bed with heat stroke!
Rich...
I could go for some crab right now with a cold beverage! Looks like y'all had a great time! -Richard Weisser
I mean...I love crab legs but geez guys....you axe em while they're wiggling around?
No wonder I'm not a good fisherman, crabber or whatever you call it.
So...the boat ride looked ...fun. ?
Looks like fun..........yummy I love crabs. Your son's comment is precious.
They were Reese's Pieces and they were delicious.
Also......it appears that after checking the tape, I NAILED the crab count!!
That little outboard was humming right along. Wow, right down the middle with that hatchet. It's not like cleaning blue crab. You guys just keep the legs and throw the skirt away?
Looks like a terrific time with some terrific people, and good crabs. Too bad me and open water in a boat are a deadly combo. :( Jeff
Ben's Crabs? That was funny! Looks like it was another awesome time, and once again, ActiveBrad gets left behind to do all the work in the rain! hahahaha... :-)
Yummm - wish I had been there. I would have taken about 6 of those bad boys off your hands! LOL
Love the post Rich! It is another side to you that's very interesting and great and I love any type of boating and fishing. I love sea food! Do you think you could ship me some in the mail or UPS, pack in dry ice like they do in Alaska.
Rich,
Thanks for the post. by the way, I never got my deliver of crabs. You might want to check with FedEx.
Rich, that was rather mean on your part to not tell your son about his crabs problem...
If you think crabbing was good down there, you should have seen the monsters we got in Anacortes! Come try our waters sometime!
Sorry to hear about your son's crabs, but it sounds like he got that stuff cleared up. Thanks for the videos!
