What are you paying for gas in your area?  I took this photo today after filling up my tank in Kahului on Maui.  From what I can see, Maui has the highest prices of all the 4 largest Hawaiian islands.  Those of us living here are glad to see that gas prices have come down to these levels because they were substantially higher not long ago.  I hope that prices are much lower where YOU live. They are in Ann Allen's hometown of Birmingham, AL as you can see from her post HERE.

I've often wondered the same thing.  Didn't it used to be cheaper when prices were under $1/gallon?

I almost choked - WOW!  Those are pretty doggone high.  I filled up yesterday and paid $3.09 for unleaded.  My brother in New York is paying what you're paying...strange isn't it? - Calie

Hi Calie.  They're paying this much in NY?  I thought we were unique here on Maui and had no idea others were paying similar prices.

Hi Richard - the morning news says our gas prices dropped 8 cents from yesterday.  I believe the average around town is $3.30-somthing per gallon.

Hi Ann - When I posted the prices I was hoping it would make the mainland folks feel a little better about filling up their tank.  I'm sure the decrease in prices carries more impact though.

I love the picture in your profile with the flowering tree in the background.  What is it?

Hi Richard - Thanks, I believe that is a Yoshino Cherry.  I had one planted in my yard at home and the drought we suffered a year ago did it in.  I went out and took a picture of our a gas sign in our area this morning ($3.26!)....I like that idea for a localism post.  Have a great day!

Ann-No wonder that photo makes me think of my former East Coast location.  I lived in MD for 35 years and sometimes made it to see the cherry blossoms in DC.  I miss it a little but can't live in both places at the same time.

How/'s business in Alabama?  $3.26, huh.

Aloha Richard,

My parents used to live in Hawaii, so I know your gas prices are high there. Average price here in MD is $3.29 a gallon, the Costco in town had it at $2.92 last week. Diesel has become more expensive because of the move to Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel.

Hi Rich-I lived in Maryland (near Annapolis) for 35 years when working in aerospace and by coincidence I also went by the name "Rich" back there.  Maui has a Costco but they don't sell gas which is unfortunate.  Gas prices came down on Kauai when Costco opened a gas station there.

Thanks for the input explaining the high cost of diesel.

Aloha!

Aloha from Hawaii. Since making the move from an area where Winter meant it was cold and snowy to one where it means rains sometimes last 15 minutes instead of 5, I've made other changes as well including moving from an engineering management position to a real estate professional. I enjoy change and both have been good. I use my blog to discuss most anything relevant to the Hawaii real estate market and my new profession including tips, local information, Hawaiian lifestyle, and embracing change.
