Twitter, Facebook.....Confused??

I have been reading a lot of posts regarding Active Rain updating Facebook and Twitter.  I have managed to sign up for Facebook and Twitter.  I have a myspace which I use more for friends, family and my kids and I love it, the music, pictures and designing the pages is great and there are numerous ways to send comments, picture comments, etc.

Facebook... well, it is okay- I have found a few friends- doesn't seem as user friendly with designing the page, etc.

Twitter... even worse than Facebook- it seems you are only updating a short reference to "what are you doing?"

I thought being able to update through Active Rain- I would be able to have my posts, etc.. show up on the profile for others to read.  Am I not doing something right?  I have gone back and read and re-read the posts regarding how to set it up and the bloggers seem so excited about what is going to do for them. So what am I missing here?

On Myspace I can post a bulletin to include a link to Active Rain if my friends and family want to read my posts.. but I can't find anything like that for Twitter....

I would like to use any and all of the feature available to have my networking sites run as smooth as possible.

Any suggestions??

I recently signed up for FACEBOOK and love it simply because TONS of old friends were on there that aren't on my myspace.  I probably met 20 college friends in less then a week.  Twitter ... its ok.  I've been all over reTaggr (www.retaggr.com) to post the same looking "widget / link menu" on all of my sites; AR, personal website, Myspace, etc. ... and it adds other great site links like Trulia, Zillow, and really any one you want.

You can also go to ping.fm and register.  You can update your status in one place and it will ping it to whatever other social networks you are signed up with i.e. facebook, twitter.  It's a major time saver instead of trying to go to each page to up the status.  I posted a blog entry about it if you want to check it out.

Bill-  I guess this title didn't catch too many--- it's amazing to me the posts that get 50-100 comments and the ones that get 5-10.  I have surprisingly been lucky with a couple that have gotten quite a few- I was so excited mainly because it was unexpected.  This one however, where I needed some comments to give me some more insight- well, not so much.   Oh, well- I guess we will figure these things out ourselves.

Steve-  thanks, I will check these out!

Michelle-  thanks- I have figured out the time saver thing- I guess I just expected more from some of these than I got... a little too much wishful thinking.  I will definately check out your post.

Gary-  my insight isn't very informative to say the least- like I stated above, I was hoping I was missing something- but it seems all there was to figure out is already out there unless someone comments otherwise.... we will figure it out together..let me know if you find something interesting.
