Google, The Eye in the Sky

This article brings to mind mind the chorus from an old Alan Parsons Project song: "I am the eye in the sky, looking at you". A new super high resolution satellite available to Google truly makes Google the eye in the sky. The GeoEye-1 is the world's highest-resolution commercial satellite. Using technology previously only available to spy agencies like the CIA, the article states that the satellite can zoom in with enough resolution to capture the detail of a baseball diamond. While this brings a number of practical improvements to existing technologies such as Real Estate mapping, it also raises some interesting privacy concerns. Who's going to be looking at high resolution photographs of you while you float around in your backyard pool? I guess from now on it will be best to save those types of activities for cloudy days. :)

Hi ANdre,  Amazing technology, isn't it ?  Although. I'm not sure how this is any different than allowing the Gov't to eavesdrop.  Oh, thats right, the Gov't can already do that !

Wow, that is an impressive image!  I don't have a pool and don't need one with ocean all around.  I do have a skylight over my shower but don't think I'll worry too much.

From what I understand, the satellites which the government has can zoom in on a penny on the ground, read the date and tell you where it was minted. I can't do that with my reading glasses on unless I use a magnifying glass.

I love this stuff.  Google Street view blew me away when I found it.  This technology is doubly cool for a guy who started this business before we even had cell phones.
