After sitting and listening to the debate between Obama and McCain, I have about had my fill of this political BS. When all I hear is how the other is so bad, it makes me sick to even hear about who can be in charge. As far as I am concerned, maybe it is time that we turn the country over to Warren Buffett and let him run it like he ran his companies. In the end we would be better off.

1 Corinthians 13:11 - "When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me."

That is not what that debate was about, It might be the worst that I have heard. It made me so sick on hearing it. And what is worse is there are people right here in ActiveRain that is the same way. I hear "I hope that Obama does not win cause we are going to have such a bad country if he does" or I hope McCain does not win because he will destroy America". If you truly believe either one of those, then maybe you need to be perparing to leave America.

*NEWS FLASH* One of them is going to win whether you like it or not.

What ever happen to the good ole days when we voted for people because of what they promise to do and not because of all the trash that we could dig up on the other candidate. "Oh, but that is not right because we are taking away freedom of speech".

Well, frankly I am sick and tired of having 4 million people shoving their opinions in my face about which one I should vote for. What gives you the right to force your opinions on me. This is my life and I can make a decision for myself. Maybe it is time that we start talking about what one of these guys can do for our beloved country so that we can get the right one in the White House instead of sitting here bitching about what the other is doing wrong or has done wrong in the past.

If you want to dig up garbage on people, you might want to think about what lies in your own closet before you go trashing someone else. One thing that my grandmother taught me that will stay with me for life is this. "Before you talk about another person's dirty home, make sure that yours can past the white glove test".

I challegne anyone that reads this to step forward if you are that perfect. I will end with this statement.

If you ain't got anything good to say, then shut the hell up.

Danny - the days of comparing true abilities has long passed.  It seems that the mudslinging is the preferred tool for campaigning.  IMO this type of behavior reminds me of elementary school girls that are sniping at one another on the playground.  Most unattractive.

Danny ~ I couldn't watch the debates either because of that; it seemed to drown out whatever they were saying.  To be honest with you, I'm not confident in either one of them.  It should be an interesting 4 years, to say the least. I'm a big fan of Warren Buffet myself (I heard he's backing Obama) and hope he might have some input in the next cabinet.

Carol, I agree with that statement 100%.

Kathy, from the way I understand it, both candidates think that Warren should be Secretary of the Treasury. My personal opinion is whether you like him or not, he has a proven track record of making things work. And we need someone in politics that is old school business.

I thought that the last debate was lackluster.  However, I don't consider pointing out truths weather positive or negative as mud slinging unless they are untrue.  Even though the First Amendment was put in place to protect political speech, I think that politicians should be required to tell the truth and should be penalized if they knowingly spread lies about their opponents

Danny, how long has it been since you voted for someone instead of against someone? Negative campaining works. I really would like to see a real debate where the candidates said what they actually thought and would do but that probably won't ever happen. Too easy to sway minds with sound bites. Whoever wins, I will support them to the best of my ability.....why can't we all say that?

Roger, I could stand for that. Problem is, all the politicians would end up being prosecuted.

Fred, actually I can actually state that I always vote for and not against. I do not make my opinions based on what it wrong with the canididate but yet what is right with the candidate. In this election there is a lot wrong with both candidates and it has been hard to discern what is right with either one. The biggest reason for that is because they are more about telling the world what is wrong with their opponent. As for the last sentence of your comment, let me say this. Regardless who is elected, they are the president. If they screw up, they need to be told. I support a system that keeps checks and balances in place, not one that says "I will do it because I am the president". Or in some cases "vice president".

Danny - I don't think those good ole days existed.  Pretty sure this is how campaigns have always been run.  It sucks and I wish we could be more intelligent as a country, but this is what we've got.  My friend and a stranger got into it with some guy at Peet's this morning of all things.  The other woman finally told the people behind her to please move ahead as she didn't want to stand near the idiot.  Rational discussion seems to be impossible for some people.  It scares me when I notice how few people seem to think for themselves.

Chris, that is my point of this whole rant. Instead of people thinking for themselves, they are attempting to influence people to their way of thinking. I can pick any issue and half the people will love me for supporting it and half will think I am crazy for it.

Hi Danny I wrote a similar post so I agree  totally.  i was really disgusted tonight on the news they had a segmant on adverse nasty commercials  they went through both candidateds commercials and pointed out in esch ones where the accusation was either fragmented or simply untrue.  Both sides were guilty.  now how do you trust what you hear.?  I have hope that these 2 men are basically good people only have cut throat campaign managers.  You would think if that is right..they would be able to control the garbage ..that should be an easier task than running the government.

Civil discourse and actual debate on issues and stands is unfortunately a lost artform. It did exist once as there are historical records of many great debates from the early Greeks to Renaissance thinkers to modern Americans; of course there was always the possibility that you could be persecuted if you stepped over certain lines. Luckily, in America we are able to push boundaries and it is this pushing of boundaries that makes this great country better. There are still taboos and always will be, though these taboos will change with time. I would say to the politicians speak your mind honestly, we want to know what you believe and not what will just make a good soundbite. Both candidates say they want change, please elaborate...we really do want to hear what you want to do and not what you think the other candidate will do, may do, could do...

Danny,

You beat me to it!  We must be on the same wave length.  I've been thinking about writing a post about this myself.  I am so tired of hearing about what the other has done or hasn't done.  I DON'T CARE!!  I, too, want to know what the candidate will do for their country.  Whatever happened to porfessionalism and ethics??  I so agree with what you wrote.
