"Macy's says that the Consumer might be having some hard times."

That could be the "No Duh" quote for the day.  There are TONS of people who are frightened by what's going on in the Global Economy.  There are people in their 70s and 80s who are on fixed income who have truly had their worlds rocked... and their children might be some of the folks who have been laid off, lost their homes, or at the very least had their own 401K close to being wiped out.

Now is the time to remember the lessons of 9/11.  On 9/11 we knew that everyone we met that day was sad and frightened.  Today is no different.

Our leaders need our prayers.  This is a time to be at Church early with a warm smile.  We know that the Paulsons and Bernanke's all over the world will be working yet another weekend to figure this out.  They've gotten us this far - and with the help from other very bright people in other countries, we will see this crisis end too.  Bank's are closed on Monday - so fortunately they have a long weekend!

Our familiy and our friends need hugs!  Our children, our parents, our brothers and sisters are all worried.  We need to reach out and let them know that they are loved, and thought of.  We're in the Real Estate Business.  We've been figuring out how to make a living in a "depressed" environment for over a year!  We've still made money!

Today is the day to be out of the house, on the phones, connecting to every person we can to let them know it's going to be okay- and this could be the end of the crisis.  From this day going forward - all assets could be going higher - INCLUDING REAL ESTATE.

If you need a smile or a hug, or an encouraging word - call us! (919-649-5057 is my cell number) We're headed out to spread the word:

I think events unravelled so fast as to take us all by surprise. Unfortunately for us in real estate we are weather the sub prime mess, then the credit crunch and just when you think things are turning around there goes the economy. It is a lot to digest

Charlie!  You are right!  It's a lot for ALL of us to digest - but we need to "man up" and go out there with a smile!  Today is a day when I beleive we can each make a HUGE difference for the folks around us... in the grocery store - engage people.  Be as reassuring and compassionate as possible!

Banks are closed on Monday?  Didn't know that.  Great advice, Eleanor.  I think now is the time to go on a long bike ride with the family, or dance the day and night away at a music festival.

We all need to do our part in helping others.  We are all living the same nightmare, but we all don't have to react with negative comments.  Reach out and touch someone today.

Capitol idea Eleanor! I had plans for a 'paper work' day in the office. Now I am sure that my time would be much better spent sharing smiles and shaking hands out in my community. Some times I need a little boost. Today, you can take credit for providing me with it. Have fun today. I know I will!

E,

I went to Bloomberg to see what news there is about the subject of your post.  Here it is:  G-7 Officials Signal No `Harmonized' Response to Global Financial Crisis

Eleanor, very good advice. As for hugs, I can always use or give one. I am a hugger.

Mike!  THANKS!  Hey - they are going to release a statement from the G-7 at 6pm est.

"Officials said they recognized the need to step up, with Bundesbank President Axel Weber saying that ``doing nothing is not an option at this stage.'' U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling said it's ``pretty important'' for the G-7 to act. President George W. Bush addressed his nation, pledging his administration ``will continue to act.''

The 20 "biggie" nations will meet tomorrow.  Our markets are closed on Monday - and so is Japan - so it will be TUESDAY before anything comes out.  8o)

911 made us think about what is REALLY important, and put other things in perspective. You're right, this situation should do the same. I heard on the news the other day about an out-of-work gentleman who shot his family and himself, and I thought how awful! What happened to "where there's life there's hope"! So we may change jobs, living conditions, whatever. We'll be fine in the ways that really matter.

our scenario is not that different from 9/11 and taking a similar approach is not a bad idea

It's all about confidence in the system and right now we are all panic stricken and have lost confidence . It will be OK but until we feel like the leaders are taking corrective action and not just talking about it we will not have the level of confidence we had in the past.

Thanks for a great post, Eleanor.  In times of stress and fear, personal contact and the reassurance from shared experience is great tonic.

Thank you for this uplifting post. If we all continue to let the consumer know some of these things, we might just get out of this a little sooner.
