A New York Feng Shui Consultant AND a Roving Reporter

Feng Shui in ManhattanFeng Shui on Long Island.  THIS is what I do and have been doing for well over a decade.  But lately I have noticed something else...I HAVE BEEN TURNING IN TO THE ROVING REPORTER!

It's not MY fault.....Blame it on Activerain!!  Having signed on so long ago after being on other blog sites, I discovered AR.  I was on EBlogger, Ezines, Selfgrowth and many other online publications.  And as a Feng Shui Consultant I was ONLY writing about Feng Shui.

Activerain changed all that.  I believe it was one of the very first posts I read that advised me to ALWAYS CARRY MY CAMERA.  I didn't have a good one at the time but a trip to B & H in Manhattan changed all that.  I came out with a lot of help, a great price and a wonderful camera (which can do anything but I leave it on "P"  --  Point and Shoot : )

I've noticed, over time, that had I NOT read that useful piece of advice, I would have missed some very unusual shots.  So much so that lately I feel I've become the ROVING REPORTER-First on the scene.

A New York Feng Shui Consultant---OR a Reporter?  I've become a bit of both!  Now all I need is a Press Pass...

Have YOU turned in to a ROVING REPORTER?   I would love to see some shots you would never have gotten if you hadn't been reading ACTIVERAIN.

You are so cute.  Love the photo of the Plaza.  I just took a picture of a weird bug that looks like something they would eat on  Survivor.  Blech.   My husband doesn't get why I need photos of every little thing.  I just tell him you never know when it might come in handy for a blog post!!

Carole,
Well, now that you mention it though I had not thought of it that way.  Just goes to show when you put a camera in a bloggers hand you don't know what to expect!

Oh fun...I have several, sunsets at just the right time, road closures, truck on fire, area on fire...many, but they're all in my ole computer that needs a Doctor :)  Having that camera is really an extension of self, and look close I can see you taking the pic of the flag (you're in the side mirror).....now do I get my Press Pass :)

It seems like when I am out and about I am much more conscious of what would make a good blog.  Now if my memory would just work with me and remember the ideas!

Carole, it is amazing what having your camera can do. I do feel like a roving reporter at times. These are great scoops you got. Do you think Activerain, could have press badges made up and we could get access to lots of places because we are reporters, I'm thinking football games, conventions.

Carole:  You have a great place to be a roving reporter.  Since I got my flip camera, I feel like I've turned into one too.  Captured a beautiful rainbow yesterday and I know there's a blog just waiting to burst out with the rainbow shot.  In times like these, it was a symbol of hope to me.

Carole -  I guess what this shows as that not only are you the best Feng Shui consultant in your area, but also the best reporter !  Those are some great shots !  Awesome... love the monkey : )

What is funny is that about a month or two ago I started to remember to take our camera along on walks and so forth just in case I wanted to take a photo or two for the blog.   Stephanie called me a geek but so be it : )  I had never wanted to take a camera out with me before so I can relate !  ~ Chris

Carole - In your next life, you should be a photographer!  What great shots of the day to day happenings in good ole New York.  Love the reflective building photo but my fave has got to be that little monkey.

hi Carole, so you have another career going on! ;-) I absolutely love the Plaza Reflections pic, it almost looks like an impressionist painting. The monkey reminds me of a friend of mine when he doesn't shave for a week or so. ;-)

You had me laughing :-)   SO many days I find myself taking photos and thinking of myself as a journalist.  Then there are other days when I curse myself saying "Where is YOUR camera???" when I left it at home and really wanted to capture that Kodak moment!

Loved the photos Carole!

Hey Scoop!  (your new name) You are so right.  That is why I asked for a teeny camera on my Bday.  I have a super duper large camera and a really old one.  Now I have a just right one.  And wouldn't you know, the last couple of days, I didn't have it on me and lost some good stuff?  Drat!  Glad you are smart enough to rememember to carry yours?

Audrey, That's so funny.  I actually miss the times I don't have it handy and I run into something funny!

Cynthia, I don't have  a little camera, it's a big one.  People are much more likely to stop and talk and allow me to take photos--it works :)

Kathy, I believe the AR Gods should give us all one, it seems we need them!  I have been 'first on the scene' for lots of things too....

Kim, It's not only blogs, the first accident was in the Jones Beach parking lot....a guy found his car like that after being at the beach.  I took some shots and emailed him the pictures in case he needed them :)

Missy, I sure wish I'd have already learned to use that flip camera!!  I think AR should have a press pass made for each member---after all, we do REPORT on here :)

Donna, I want that Flip but my camera takes short but moving "takes' --  if only I can learn how to use it and then get it onto YouTube!  You're steps aheard.

LENZA---Wow, that can only be Andrew!   YOU are missed kind sir!  And how incredibly nice of you to stop by my post--we all do miss you lots and do hope you're well!!

Teri, The monkey needs an organ right?  Those accidents weren't in the city, one was in Jones Beach and the other on Long Island.....gotta love our drivers, huh?

Chris and Stephanie, The camera sure comes in handy!  But I was always a camera person on trips, I've just extended it to every time I leave the house :)

Joni, I love that building when you hit it just right!  I don't tiptoe around with my camera, it's WAY too big--there is no hiding it :)  But your idea made me laugh!

Donna, My daughter took most of the shots--not all.  She didn't want to bother the gentleman with that monkey and I didn't want to let the opportunity get away!  I thought he was adorable too!!

Marti, Darn, I don't have one friend who looks like that monkey :)  But I love the reflections too on the building, it just amazes me when you are passing at the right time of day and can get that shot.

James, Who's got TIME?  I'm only kidding--my day job IS Feng Shui (and my night job is writing about it often :)  but I have to have 'time off' for fun, too :)!

Kris, The one or two times I am only running out for a minute and don't bring it, sure enough I'll come across something interesting---doesn't it always happen?  Mine is big, I can't just stuff it in my purse :(

Crystal, Thani you, I neded a nickname (and kinda like 'Scoop"  :)  My camera is big too but I notice people are more willing to allow you to take pictures and write about them.  I wonder if you saw a difference between your bigger and smaller one....

Great pictures, and you're right... we need to talk about more than just what we specialize in... we need to talk about our communities.  That's how we can connect with our neighbors and future neighbors.

I love that one of the guy with the monkey on his back... haha.

Mara, I'm so sorry all my old pictures were lost in the flood--while not always wild I took lots of photos anyway of the way New York looked in the 70's.  What a difference!! You've been roving a bit yourself lately :)

Rich, It's funny there is always something that catches my eye---and I'll have to pull over and get a shot of it!  You never know when you might need it :)

Liz, I hope I'm not changing careers--Again!!  I've done that SO many times already :)

Gerorgina, I loved that shot too!  I'm not sure how that poor guy felt about my camera but he didn't really seem to mind--neither did the monkey :)

Cheryl, One was in a parking lot---the guy who's care it was didn't have a camera and I thought he might need it for insurance purposes.  I emailed them to him as I had gotten there just a few minutes after he did.
