If you had to do something besides real estate ,what would it be?

Hello Everyone. With all the talk about the economy and the slowing of the housing market. I wondered what people would do if they had to come up with Plan B, at least part time. Well I love real estate(except for the people)LOL. I've been doing it for 13 yrs and have done pretty well, I believe. But if I had to, and I might again, even part time because I do love it. It is very much a part of who I am. I did this for 7 1/2  years and still do it on special occasions. This is one of the things I did to earn a living before I was a RE/MAX Broker/Owner and would again if need be This photo "Yes", that's me. My hair was longer then. This photo was taken in 1994. These are an awesome group of guys and I loved working with them

THE BAND IS "RAGING COUNTRY

Wiley Bolen is the sound guy & then me.       Tommy Hall Steel guitarist(bottom right)

I have a professional tape of the band singing and wanted to share a song or two with all of you. However, I don't know how to transfer it from the tape, to the computer, to a link you could click on and listen to. I will if anybody wants, after I find out how to do it myself or ask someone who does know how. If you'd like me to do so just ask when you comment.

These are pics were taken at the Grand Opening of Lowes in Lynchburg Va

I also did hair for seventeen years(1980-1997) and loved it but there isn't as much money doing hair as there is in real estate, at least that was before the housing market got bad. So this is something else I could do if I have to do keep a roof over my head and food for all my fur babies. If you'd like to share some of your hidden talents in your life before real estate, feel free to do so. My beauty shop was located just a short distance from where my office at RE/MAX is. As you can see from the photo on the right. I got into celebrating the holidays. Hope you enjoyed the trip down my memory lane.

I think I might be able to help, not sure, but will do my best.  As a musician myself, I can appreciate your post and your efforts to share your music here.  Let's chat next week and see how I might be able to help.  I have a home studio, but I haven't worked with cassettes in ages.  The trick is to get it converted to an mp3 file or format so you can add a player to your Blog and share with your readers.  You know where to find me and how to reach me.  I'll be looking forward to hearing from you next week.  Thanks Pat.    :-)

PS.  I tried to leave you a nice long worthy comment like you always do on my posts, but I always just seem to run out of breath, just when it's starting to get good!  LOL~  (wink wink)  Hope you have a great rest of the weekend.

Pat:  I love real estate so much, that if I had to look elsewhere I might just go to a bank and help them in their short sale department.  They could use people that actually understand the market!

Brad-Thank you so much for coming by. That is so awesome to have the AR community builder come by. That means a lot and makes me feel special. You truly are a very nice fellow. Love your sense of humor  Just so you know your comment is perfect, just like you(remember no swelled head)I appreciate your offer to help. Cassettes are definitely a thing of the dinosaur age that is for sure but back then they were more popular. There is a fellow at the church that I gave a tape to a short while ago(not mine)and he was going load it on a MP3 file so he could share it with the pastor as it was a tape of his father speaking at a function so he might know as well. I know you're a busy guy and I hate to bother you. It really means a lot that you're willing to help this technology challenged gal. You have a genuineness about you that is so refreshing especially in today's world. You have a great weekend Your friend Pat

Chris-Thanks for stopping by-I love it too and it so much a part of my life and has been for 13 yrs. I just wanted to share some of the things I could do if absolutely necessary and I did love both of them so much. I also know for some folks looking for other possibilities would be real scary but then again so is the economy right now. You're right about them needing someone in the bank that knows more about the real, real estate market

Hi Pat:  Well, after 30 years with a major corporation and being fortunate enough to get an early retirement, I went to work for the local school system.  I wanted to be a teacher way back in the day but life took me down a different road.  In hindsight, it was a road meant to be.  Still, how fortunate to get a second chance to do something you've always dreamed of.  Spent a few years in the school system and decided I didn't need another career at my age.  I've always had more than a keen interest in real estate and had said many times over that I should get my license.  Finally, I did and to me it's been the best job I've ever had.  I have a real passion for real estate and really do not want to do anything else.  So, as for plan B, back to the school system if I had to but I'm going to hang on to real estate as long as possible and hope that better days are near at hand.

Hi Donna-I appreciate you sharing some of what you have done before real estate. I just noticed the time on your comment. A nightowl like me I see. I was offered a recording contract way back when but I was only 17 and my folks wouldn't let me go. Times change look at how young the kids are now. I don't know where I'd be today if they had said yes. But things happen for a reason that's for sure and while I do love my music and I do love cutting hair. Real Estate is very much a big part of my life and has been since I started. I've basically lived, breathed and worked real estate from day one. I don't intend to give up by any means. I thought it was a great title as a way to share some of what I had done before real estate and if need be could again part time to keep my fur babies fed. Good chatting with you and I'll talk to you again.

Wow Pat, what a plethora of talent! Hair, singing and real estate. I think the more that we can do and learn to do, the better off we are. After working as a secretary, a legal secretary and then a paralegal, I think I've settled in on real estate...next step - retire!! Of course, who knows when THAT will happen....but I love my life now. ;-)

Teri-I just knew you were one smart lady. Looks like we both have talents outside of real estate and I agree totally that the more things you know the better off you are. Real estate has been a part of my life for 13 years now and I've slept, ate and breathed it since day one and I've learned so much. I was a hairdresser for 17 yrs and I loved it and never thought about doing anything else until someone asked me about real estate. Funny how life works. My music will always be an important part of who I am regardless of whether I ever do it again but for many reasons it couldn't ever be full time even if I wanted that. Chemo took a lot of my lung capacity from when I had breast cancer 5 years ago. I still do sing on special occasions and I do miss it but my life back then was so much different than it is today. I'm much more settled and I like you am happy with my life so I'm in real estate for the long haul most likely until retirement. I just can't picture me retiring. Maybe slowing down a little when I get older many years from now. Age is only a number. It was great chatting with you and I look forward to catching you again.  :-)

Well I've done just about everything.  I've played guitar and sang in night clubs, art, public speaking, training, seminars, web design, SEO...  I would like to be a public speaker in real estate but I would hate to be a road warrior.  My next engagement is next June in SD.  I guess I could also be a broker owner or a managing broker but...adult day care can cramp my style!

Hi Jim-Wow! What a multi-talented fellow you are. Very impressive. I'm lol right now at the last sentence on your comment. That's my life. It is challenging to say the least as there are 38 agents in the office. Thank you for stopping by and also for the chuckle.

Morning Pat - Wish I could comment on my own musical talent, but alas, my share was given to you and Brad and Jim and my Austin buddy, Russell Lewis (check him out, super nice guy). But that's OK, I really do make a terrific fan...what more could an entertainer ask for ;-)  I don't have a plan B, been on my own too long and have no desire to change that.  I got my real estate license in 1979 and started my first RE company in 1980, this is my second incarnation in real estate.  Spent 10 years as a loan officer and 5 years day-trading and travelled full-time in an 38' RV for 5 years.  I've had my share of financial setbacks and have learned to live within my means which allows me to weather our current financial storms.  I love re-inventing myself and thrive on the learning process.  As long as our country remains viable for the entrepreneur, I'll be sticking it out here in Real Estate.  I love posts like this where we get to learn a little more about each other here in the Rain.

Hi Pat, this is a wonderful post and was sent to me by my friend Gail MacMillan who made the comment above! You know, I don't know where to start, I have so many things I would love to do and already enjoy on a part time basis to some degree. I do love music and if I had the chance would probably do like Brad and be in a band, record music and play and tour and just have a ball! it's truly the love of something that is inspiring and I hope you achieve some success on any level in your endeavors! Of course now that you have asked...I also love cooking oh and then traveling and hunting and running and so many other things that will come in handy if I ever retire...I just need enough to make it happen. Thanks again for a compelling post that poses such an interesting question!

Hi Gail- I appeciate the fact that you passed the link for this to Russell. We all have our own special talents. It sounds like you know what it's like to survive. I do know as well. I traveled with the band for 7.5 years and we went all over to many different states. I drove the equipment truck. It was my life and i do love to perform and I do love my fans. I also like this type of post because it makes us much more connected to people than if they just reported on techy stuff or just real estate listings.  That most have been interesting traveling in a RV. I can relate to the reinventing yourself. I've done that all my life. I get bored sitting still. having to be moving otherwise life gets boring

Hi Russell-Nice to meet you. I loved that part of my life. It was a lot of fun. Singing is very much a part of who I am. I so very much appreciate your good wishes. I didn't used to cook but I do more now I guess I've become more of a homebody. I do love to travel as long as it's not to a hot seclude beach with nothing to do except to bake in the sun. Nice chatting with you

Hi Pat , I will do the other links tomorrow. This very interesting and so pleased to be directed here and get a chance to read more about you and your interests both current and past. I was surprised to read about your cancer and that you are survivor and doing well. It takes so much courage to not over come the big C itself but there is so much to it and all that you suffered through and then to come out with such an uplifting spirit and right back in there living your life.

I will go to the other links on Friday ( I will be out of town all day tomorrow and will not be having computer access. Thank you for this and for allowing me to become more familiar with your life, dreams and aspirations. You are a wonderful person and one that I look forward to knowing better and better. Have a good night and a magnificent day tomorrow.
