Testimonials... Ideas that Boost Sales

A Testimonial comes from a person that was happy with the level of service you provided.  They are not just happy, but so happy that they took the time to provide you with something that will help boost your business.  The testimonial shows other prospects how your business can do a better job than your competitor and establishes trust with your clients.

Here are a few ideas to get a testimonial that will "WOW" your next prospect:

  • Feature an Illustration - Unless you have professional photos, illustrations work just as well
  • Use a Traditional, Short Headline - You want something that will grab your visitors attention and lead them to the whole story.  Similar to what you do hear on ActiveRain.  Not everyone will read your post unless you have an eye catching title or headline.
  • Feature the Best, Benefit-Laden Snipet - Listen for the best part of the testimonial and feature it using a different font that is bigger and bolder.  This makes it stand out from the rest of the story.
  • Include an Audio Testimonial - Connect with your prospects by handing out an audio version of your customer's testimonials.  This can easily be incorporated into your listing packet.  Would that not impress your prospects?  If nothing else, this would certainly help you stand out from the others.  This sort of technique is currently being used by many ActiveRain members.  Although this is not the exact technique, I can think of two users that utilize video today.  The first is Active Brad who keeps us updated on all of the latest web applications.  The other is Mike Mueller who shares his ideas and interviews on the net.
  • Include Contact Information - Just because you know a testimonial is real doesn't mean your visitors know it's real.  You can easily boost the 'Trust Factor' by including your customer's full name, city and state, and their web address.

Have you done anything differently with your testimonials that I can add to this list?  I am always open to new ideas.

John, Loving this post.  What a GREAT idea to have testomonials on video?  Why didn't I think of that?  Thanks for the great tips!  I'm bookmarking this to share with friends!

Tom - Maybe you didnt mean to comment, but thanks for stopping by either way.

Elizabeth - It just made sense when I watched the video's for Brad and Mike.  They are not the only ones, but those are the ones I watch the most.  It speaks to prospects better than a one or two liner on a webpage.  However, if that is what you have, then make the most of it.  Any testimonial is still better than none.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I agree that testimonials are helpful.  Customer testimonials can be more important than anything that I do or say.

Hi John, I absolutely love getting these especially when unsolicited. Problem is many times I'll do a consultation and never hear back from someone (although I like to keep in touch) or I'll ask clients to consider writing a testimonial if they feel led and even when I remind them once or twice, after a few months I don't want to be a pest.

Hi Karen.  I agree, when you do not expect to receive it, that is the best.  Typically, I let them know I'll ask for it when all is said and done.  This way they know up front that I am holding myself to a high expectation.  I review things again prior to closing to ensure I held up to my end of the bargain.  So, when I ask them to put something together for me, it is not awkward.  Plus, I do not tell them what to write.  I can be a long story or a quick "thanks for great service".  Most of the time, it is not too short.  Plus, I typically will send out a survey, which is another nice reminder.  The survey gives them space to provide their feedback.

John, these are excellent suggestions. I like the audio testimonial as an outside the box type of idea :-)

Thanks Lara.  As long as you can use at least one idea, then the post was worth it.  :-)
