GlobalEdge, a portal for international real estate agents and developers, just published a research "Top 50 Russian overseas property destinations". It starts with:

"There's always someone with a story about a rich Russian buyer who rolls up and buys a bevy of developments with a suitcase full of banknotes at the full asking price. Where are these buyers when you really need them? Where are they looking to buy?"

The research measures the percentage of country/city searches to buy foreign real estate in the most popular Russian search engine Yandex, performed by Russians in Russian of course.

You can read the entire text here.

The research doesn't say about the actual numbers of searches, just percentages.

I've read another research performed by a well-known Russian real estate portal Prian. They counted searches on their own website search engine. The total was 400,000 searches for properties in foreign countries on one portal during July and August - isn't it a large market?! The top destinations were all kind of sea resorts, they say. This is in accordance with the GlobalEdge article too.

So, it's a large and very divesified market out there - Russian buyers for foreign real estate. And the winner for this market will be... maybe you? Obviously, the one who will find the effective way to market their propeties to these buyers.

to Georgina: well, learning Russian is the task of the same difficulty maybe as learning to be your own dentist, lawyer, family doctor, car mechanic, webdesigner, etc. etc ;-) You go to a professional for many things in life, right? Same with any foreign language - hire a translator/intepreter and don't worry about anything! Even The United Nations Organization manages their complicated multi-lingual tasks with the help of translators/interpreters...

p.s. I've seen a beach boy in Dominican Republic speaking Russian though;-) He wanted to earn his commission bringing buyers to a store, there are many Russians coming to that resort area, so he learned several phrases in Russian to do his job ;-)
