I have always enjoyed working on crafts. My Mom instilled that in me when she taught me to sew when I was very young. I especially love holiday crafts that can be given to those around me. And this year, with things being tight for many of us, I thought I would share a simple and fun idea.
Craft stores like Michael's sell white plaster Christmas ornaments for about sixty cents. With a handful of inexpensive acrylic paints, and some finer tipped brushes you are well on your way to creating hand painted Christmas ornanments.
Once you've painted the ornaments (don't forget to paint the back....and possibly put your initials and the year there as well), you will need a finishing spray. I like the high gloss. (This is the messiest part...I recommend doing it outside in the grass, or mulch).
When the ornaments are dry, you can put a ribbon or thicker embroidery floss through the hole and you are done! Wrap them up, or use them as decorations for your wrapped packages. I personally like the idea of hanging them from a bag of homemade Christmas cookies.
If you think a homemade gift would be something you'd like to try, these ornaments are a great place to start. And I find working on them to be a very relaxing activity.
