Sometimes I run into people that say they have a website, but they don't have it optimized under either SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or PPC (Pay-Per-Click). Someone compared that to buying business cards and then keeping them in their drawer, or making yard signs and keeping them in the garage. Because that is pretty much what you do when you have a website that it not optimized. It's like building a shopping mall in the desert. It may look pretty, but nobody will know about it. Well, I don't want to be one of those people with good websites that hide in the closet.

I am new at this web stuff but I know how important it is to do it right. I just got a website thru Point2Agent a couple of weeks ago (www.melig.com). I know I will need customizing and SEO and I know I'll need to put some time and money into it. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good SEO company who actually delivers what they promise? Does anyone know of a company who I do not have to spend hours on the phone asking for what I paid for? Any help would be appreciated!

Sorry I don't have any recommendations, but I'm going to hang out here to see what feedback you get.  You may want to post this in the Point2 group.

You can look at my blog http://activerain.com/blogsview/736550/SEO-for-Beginners that I just worte this morning.
To be honest, I would recommend getting the tools that are in the blog and going at it yourself. SEO companies can charge a ton and if they do not really understand your market you get nothing from them.  I knew nothing in the beginning and just gradually learned.

meli since you just started your website I would get a different domain name. It will get much better SEO if you pick one that says clarksville and real estate if those words are important in your area. It should contain your city for sure and it will only cost you about $6 to pick a different one. Its probably the cheapest SEO advice you can get.

Here is one I just played around with thats available still http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/registrar/search.asp?domainToCheck=clarksvillerealestatehome&tld=COM&checkAvail=1&ci=12014

I would try to figure out what key words people in your area are searching for the most and put them in the name. You can still keep your old name and use both but your site will get traffic quicker with a good name.

After that just read up in here. Its free. If you need help just keep asking. I spent about 100 hours reading up on different things. I am no expert but my site is shooting up so quick.

Hi Eau Clair. Thanks for the comments. I did have a website before this one www.ClarksvilleTopProducer.com and www.ClarksvilleAgent.com and both domains are now pointing to the www.melig.com . The reason why I use www.melig.com is because it is shorter and easier to remember. Unfortunately it looks like all the good names are taken so I'll have to make due with whatever else I can match to my service area.

I look forward to all of your comments and some helpful links to read more on this subject.

Meli, I have tried most of the companies out there at one time or another and I have been working with Dan Dibala at Compass Internet Solutions for several years now. He understands how the internet searched and ranks wensites and prepares your site so that it will come to the top! They perform a search for your area, help you with keywords, tag lines, everything you need to have your ite rise to the top of search engine rankings. He's a wealth of knowledge! his company provides the tools so you can watch and see the activity on your site. I print out the activity report and take it to a listing appointment and always walk out with the listing!!! I can provide statistics that no one can because of the tools they provide! The company CEO stays in touch with me to ensure that I'm getting any problems worked out and that the site is performing to the highest level possible! They have coaching also! They come in, check with you monthly to see how your site is performing, check to see if there are any changes that might help to raise your rankings, answer questions you may have. My site is working for me! And it's producing for me. Our market is so challenging here it is making us crazy! But this weekend, I was out with 2 very motivated, qualified buyers. Both will be buying from me, soon, and it will result in close to $30,000 in commissions and they both came from my site!! Dan can be reached at 806-367-1819! Please let meknow if you have any questions or concerns. Dan is one of the cornerstones of my business and I told his boss he'd better keep him around!

You can do a lot of it yourself. Look for tips in this group.  Thanks for the tip Sherry. You are one of the few people satisfied I have heard from with an SEO company.

Thanks Sherry! I appreciate you sharing the information with us! I have been reading a lot of the postings here and I've learned a lot of new things. Still struggling about doing some of it on my own and keeping the costs down.

Jeff - I've noticed the same thing! Most people seem to be unhappy for what they get for their money. It makes me more motivated to learn and try to do it on my own and save myself not only money but also headaches of dealing with underdelivering.
