When choosing a smart phone you need to decide what your needs actually are...Then you need to play with the phones.  Here is my review of the Q vs. Treo- I liked them both but overall the price of the Q could not be passed up.

Here is what I found was best for me and my needs.

I guess the first issue you have to determine is what the best service is around your area.  Here in NY or at least the Hudson Valley VZ seems to have the best coverage.

Then you have to decide what you need the phone to primarily do...After all all a phone really needs to just ring for it to be a phone.

I checked out the treo's all the iterations of them 700P and WX...  Bottom line they come up $200.00.   The Q comes up free.

Winner Q

Treo is a PDA first not a phone so call quality was not as nice, nor does it have voice dial capabilities which I really like, and the blue tooth is kind of funky.

Winner Q

Battery Life-  Treo Winner but it is also much large.

Side Note:

Motorola released a software fix for the Q which has dramatically increased the battery time on my phone.  It is called the MOL2 and it is not installed on the new phones as far as I can tell...You can find the update on Motrola.com   The Q now with email being checked every  1/2 hour, and handling several phone calls, as well as me playing around with it, it lasted at least all day.

Form Factor - Winner Q..Small, sleek, sexy.

Touch Screen- Winner Treo-  The Q doesn't have one but then again the treos only use theirs for navigation no graffiti program as far as I could tell.   The Q does take some getting used to with its navigation but it is not that bad.

Calendar and Tasks-  Well out of the box the treo 's are much better at this...They are in fact PDA's with a phone, where as the Q is the opposite     Winner Treo

The Q's home screen only shows one appointment and no tasks on the home screen.  However with a few easy upgrades the Home Screen can show more then one appointment as well as the tasks.  Which make it super easy to time block when Syncing with your OutLook.   With the add on's the functionality is awesome.

I chose the Q after all my tests.  I installed a few extra add-ons, a calendar program, a home-screen add on, and a few others for my uses. Works great.  MLS, email, calendar, Blue Tooth, VoiceDial Phone.  I can even tether it to my laptop.

I have had my Q for about a month now.  The battery is a big issue.  I am going to look at that update that you recommend.  I bought the extended battery immediately and the car charger.  It was an adjustment coming from the blackberry. The blackberry is so much more stable. I wanted more functions; the camera works great, the internet works better, I like the fact it seperates your email (blackberry dumped into one inbox) The bluetooth works much better than with the blackberry.

I am glad to hear someone else talk about the Q, thanks for the comparison.

Make sure you back up the data before you do the MOL2 update...You can also go into power setting and shut off the IR beam...If you are not using it to trade programs all day that is, you don't need to leave it on...There are also some setting to change to your display.  Change the time out settings...For the screen...

Turn down the back light time out, and when you are not using the phone the button on the bottom left will shut down the screen and lights faster then waiting for it to shut off.

The update will help with the battery life...Let me know how you make out with it...

PS You can also get DocsToGo for it now if you need to edit Microsoft Docs on the road.

Hi Troy,

They are actually using a new update called MO3.  You can find it here for the Verzion Version or just check out the moto site under upgrade software/support.
