A lot of the US agents I speak to are curious about the real estate buying/selling process that takes place here in the UK. After all it's not just interesting for curiosity's sake, it's very important if you're ever selling to UK investors who are used to a very different process.

I've made a little video over at AgentGenius to try and give a brief overview of what we do and how it's different, would be interesting to hear what you think of our system :-)

You can read the post and watch the video here.

Have a super Sunday people! :-D

Awesome! Thank you for making it available for a re-blog, Poppy. I'm sure my readers would love this. I'm off to watch your video because I really do want to know. I'm hoping Globrix will make a spot for USA agents who want to market our listings for people relocating to the USA. Enjoy your day. Love, C.

Having worked with a number of clients from the UK in the last number of years you do get a very good understanding of how different things can be here.  People often assume that things such as local jargon are used elsewhere.  Getting to know how things work in the countries is very important when you are dealing with international clients.  Thanks for sharing.

Poppy D, I just watched the video and it's really cool. BTW, I left you a comment waiting moderation over on AgentGenuis.com (LOL). Sometimes I wish we could "moderate" our blog posts comments over here. ;-)

Hi,

Thanks Poppy for your informative report.  However, if you and your responders are serious about knowing how to do business with foreign investors you should be persuing the prestigious CIPS (Certified International Property Specialist) designation.  There are only 1,800 of us globally, many from abroad.  They enjoy telling how they are certified by the United States of America's largest Trade Organization, The National Association of Realtors.

The Designation covers the Globe, it prepares you for specialization in a specific area (which is recommended, because you can not know the entire world intimately).  I specialize in Italy, because it is my roots through my grandparents and I have done business there and here.  I have been fortunate through my working with NAR since the 80's to have been named the NAR President's Liaison to Italy/FIAIP (oour sister organization in Italy).

But I am serious to gain a better understanding of the "New Americans" those coming from abroad to buy here in America, this designation can be of great assistance to you.  You do not have to travel abroad to gain the knowledge and information.  You can do business here on your own shores as foreigners come here in droves to buy in America.  Their currency is highly valued and they can buy more for the money here.  Also their investments are safer here (even today).  It doesn't matter where you live in the United States there are pockets of foreigners settling all around us.  Take advantage of this niche, it is growing and is predicted to actually outnumber us in years to come.

If you are interested in hearing more or need a mentor for this purpose I would be happy to help.

Contact me via, carolk@bestweb.net or call, 914-788-6990 which ever is best for you.

I am a Brit and now US Broker. I was interested to see things have not changed at all since I lieft in 1996. From a career perspective I prefer the US way. I would probably never have got into real estate in the UK.

I'll go watch it in a sec. I sold a house in August 2007, to a physician from England. They told me how it was done, the thing I remember about it, was never really knowing if it would close until the very end. So now I'll go watch and see if there was more, as I'm sure there is.

Since I have a daughter who lives in the UK and bought a home there a couple of years ago some of the differences have become very clear.  Since she used to work for me she learned that the UK system didn't provide any protection for buyers.  Finding a property took a lot of work and meeting lots of different agents.  Not something she wants to repeat again anytime soon.

Poppy, I am an anglophile and even have a business card that says estates agent- I really want to be a turf accountant but gambling is illegal in SC.  Thanks for the info!

Carol K, way too funny! You do realize my girlfriend is a computer tech person and not a real estate agent, right? (ROTFL)

I enjoyed your comment, though (and will take a peek at it) but I have to say you really tickled my funny bone with that advertising pitch. I am glad you enjoy your professional designation. There are so many out there I have yet to select one for myself. I'm fascinated with commercial investments so I will probably go for one of those designations eventually. Thank you for sharing your information. Very cool.  :-D

Carolyn - I'm sure there's a plan to help US agents somewhere in the pipeline, you'll be the first to know :-D

Elizabeth - Thanks :-D Great to see you on Twitter too!

Jon - Thanks for stopping by, you're too right. Never assume that people from out of the area will understand your local customs.

Carolyn - Glad you liked it girl! I can't moderate the comments myself...I'm sure it will get up there!

Carol - Interesting comment but I'm not in the business of buying and selling house :-)

Brad and Angela - You're welcome!

Corrine - Nothing's changed here at all, and it's still completely unregulated and unlicensed :-s

Missy - Yep, we screw people around here! Pull out at the very last second or drop the offer. It's not nice.

Cindy - There's a lot of room for improvement, that's for sure.

Jane - Hehe, that's cute :-) I love the fact there are anglophiles overseas!

Poppy,

Let me get this straight, you will list your home/flat with one real estate company and buy your new home/flat with another company?

Dick - Hehe, thanks :-)

Don - Yes, you sell you home with one company (maybe two, some people have two agencies marketing their property). Then you buy your new home with whoever happens to be listing the home you like, you do that part of the process yourself. The chances are it will be with another company, nobody represents you in that part of the process.

Good Day. For me, it's that I contributed, ... That I'm on this planet doing some good and making people happy. That's to me the most important thing, that my hour of television is positive and upbeat and an antidote for all the negative stuff going on in life. I am from Micronesia and also now'm speaking English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Shop our vast selection of affordably priced promotional items and save." Thank you very much :-(.
