Where you are ignorant, you are volnerable....

A while back, someone that I considered a friend came to me with a business proposition, it sounded like a great thing to do for supplemental income. A lot of people were getting into it at the time, and if you sell the products the potential was there to make some money.

After he showed mehow much he had already made just from signing people up, I went ahead and paid the money and signed up. Soon after I signed up, I started to find out certain truths that I wish I would have known before getting into it, I started to see many of the people drop out. It turned out that the income potential was not in the product being offered, but in how people you sign up. Talk about selling a dream.

IgnoranceI couldn't see where the business was going after we've all signed each up, so I called some of my friends that were thinking about joining and told them that it was not a good idea. I wish the guy that signed me up would have told me the same instead of making it sound like a no brainer, and cost me $500.

The wolves are always outthere looking to prey on the vulnerable, and most of the time they will come at a time it seems like you need them and offer their services. When you need more traffic on your website, that's when you will have the pay per click and SEO companies calling you, and they all think their service is the best. When all those home buyers who needed a home, and were not well educated about the process, those predatory lenders were right there to take advantage of their vulnerability.

If you are ignorant with your business, you are vulnerable to the declining economy. As you can see, it has already taken some real estate professionals out of the business. Wherever one is ignorant, he or she is vulnerable to someone taking advantage of that weakness. Most of the time your challenges will come from the areas where you are weak, not your strengths. Lets stay educated, and get informed before making decisions.

Great post, you are right we have to educate ourselves, it is VITAL in our profession!  It is vital in our economy!  I wish you luck, and it speaks volumes for you to realize that you didnt want to place your friends through the same mistake that you made, I am sure they appreciate that!  Best of Luck!

That is so true.  With a down market, if you are slow, what better time to get educated.
