National Army Museum At Fort Belvoir Virginia To Open 2013

Fort Belvoir is one of our country's most prominent military installations.  It will be home to the National Army Museum scheduled to open in 2013.

Fort Belvoir is approximately 30 minutes south of Washington, DC and 10 minutes from Mount Vernon, home of the nation's first Commander-In-Chief. The proposed site is on North Post along the Fairfax County Parkway just two miles from I-95 and US 1.

The main building will be approximately 175,000 square feet.  There will also be a memorial garden, park and parade ground.  "Service and Sacrifice" will be the theme reflecting on the Army's defense of the nation in nearly 200 campaigns.  Space is being planned to accommodate ceremonies, lectures, reenactments, lectures and educational programs.

Unlike the Army's 43 other museums this museum will focus on the arm's history from colonial times to the present.  There will be galleries dedicated to specific campaigns similar to the National Museum Of The Marine Corps.

Fort Belvoir has a vital role in the Base Realignment And Closure plan of the DOD.  If you are being assigned to the area my husband and I would welcome the opportunity to assist you as we have many families (military and civilian) over the past 33 years

Russell,  I appreciate your comment - it isn't all that difficult to do when your presentation is based on two real estate brokers each  with 33 years experience.  Karen

Karen, if the National Army Museum is even half as good as the Marines Corps Musuem which I visited this past summer, it will certainly be great!  I'm looking forward to another museum dedicated to our armed forces.

Brian,  I have no doubt it will be as good.  I dare not say better as my resident former Marine will get after me :)  Museums of this type in Virginia will give more people an opportunity to see what a great place we are to live and work,  Karen
