One of Best Aspects of the Real Estate Business is is that it is a reflection of society as a whole in the fact we are are individuals and approach life and business in different ways but most times are looking for the same results and that is to be successful as we each define success. There is no perfect way to go about it and some ways work better than others, all involve hard work and perseverance, but what works for me may not work for you and vice versa.

My Clients Vary across A broad Spectrum From first time buyers to multi millionaires, some ride Harley's, some ride horses, some race cars, some play sports, some are single and some are married, but each is treated with the respect and professionalism they deserve. They are all a segment of this mix we call society and we may be different in some ways but the same in others.

Today With the Internet and Platforms such as ActiveRain we can share information in a matter of seconds about our business models and the different ways we go about our individual businesses but this is not a one size fits all pair of shoes. All of the information I post will not work for You but a piece of it may and someone else will provide information that another piece can be used to enhance Your business.

I May Show Houses on A Harley at Times and you may show them in a Rolls Royce but the fact is we both are showing and selling houses. You may show a client 50 houses before they make an offer and I may not show more than 10 but we can tell one another how we closed the deal. We learn from each other by taking the parts that we are comfortable with and implementing them into our individual business models.

With The Internet We All Are Fortunatein the fact that much information is available at the click of a mouse without spending a small fortune running here and there only to find out that the system won't work for me or worse yet the speaker didn't have a clue as to the reality of Todays Real Estate market.

Take Advantage of The Information Available to You and Build a Successful and Profitable Business That Suits Your Needs. Some Beneficial Things in Life Really are Free!!!!

Cameron, there are two kinds of people in this world--people that can get away with showing houses on a Harley and people that can't.

LUCY,I guess I'm one of them because I've done it three times with 3 sales. I ALWAYS call the seller and Their agent ahead of time to give them a heads up. One time a seller saw my client all tatted in his tank top and I had to assure Her He was qualified. He purchased Her property.

Hi Cameron ... There is a freedom in this business that does not exist in many others.  You've expressed it.  Re: your Harley ... Live to ride; ride to live :)

Cameron,  I think it's cool that you can occasionally show houses on a Harley!  I think, like you, that you can tailor your style to the client.    One month a few years ago, I sold a $2.3 million dollar home and a $37,500 trailer!  The trailer was more work!!

Hi Lucy Amanda!!

Cameron - I could see showing a house on your Harley, nuttin wrong with that.  I take my golden retriever along - when I am meeting people - it works for me.  I know not everyone could get away  would be comfortable doing that, but it's me!  People respect you for being you.

Now about the race cars.... I'd love to go to a showing in one of those!! That would ROCK!!

There are as many ways to sell real estate as there are parcels of real estate! Go for it.

Everyone has their own 'niche'.  Once you figure out what that is you will be successful.  The secret is to adjust your plan to meet the market.

1:07am • #12

I've discovered in my 43 years in real estate that if I do something "persistently and consistently," I'm always successful. Then, if I am always Pleasant, Polite, Personable, Positive, and Professional (what I call the Five P's), I'll be even more successful.

I work with a lot of people who come to me in the most unpleasant, impolite, impersonal, negative, and unprofessional manner that it's a chore to turn their frowns upside down. I've come real close to giving up on a couple of them, but it just took longer than most of my Clients.

Cameron, We all have our own style.  We all have clients that have expectations.  We roll with the punches and do what feels right.

APRIL, If a client wants to get on their Harley and go find a home I am more than happy to jump on mine and go for it.

RICHARD, I always say to find out what works for you and do lots of it.

MEL, I agree 100%.

RUSSEL, I like the five P's. That is a Great outlook.

BILL, Meeting the clients expectations is the name of the game and exceeding them is the goal.

Cameron, I have met buyers at one of my listings on a motorcycle. They got a real kick out of it!!

AR is wealth of information. But you are absolutely right that what works for one person in their market may not work for others. I share what I do in my market to hopefully get people to think.

I think you hit the nail on the head.  We no longer live in a day and age where we have to look and act a certain part to be successful.  We are able to put our clients at ease by catering to the style that they are most comfortable with be it jeans or slacks.  The reality is, this versatility is most likely what has provided you with the successes that you enjoy!  Keep it up!

Cool, I went on a Harley one time but never again. I did show a house with a boat one time it was actually on an island. I guess it does take all kinds.

I agree with allmost all of the above comments.  Tips I try to follow.

  1. Be early, Ontime is LATE
  2. Be yourself
  3. Dress 1 step above your clients (From NAR Class)
  4. Make sure you give the impression your the professional
  5. Make them understand you are a person not just an object to thier means.  (After creating a relationship, I might bring my daughter to deliver flyers, show a house on a spur of the momement.  They understand we are real people.)
  6. Gather as much information about them sothat I have something in common ( where the work, play, church, eat out at, social activities) This pays itself back 100 fold
  7. Call back EVERYONE, make them feel that they are your only client.
  8. DO NOT MAKE ANSWER OR MAKE CALLS ON CELL PHONE WHILE SHOWING UNLESS IT RELATES TO THEM.

Congrats on the gold star, Cameron!  What I like the most is the bottom line here - we can ALL learn something from each other.  No matter what niche we have chosen to work, each of us has something to contribute that might help someone else get past a problem.  That's powerful.

I like your post. I have not shown clients homes while riding my Harley BUT I use my Harley as a networking tool. Wherever I go, whereever I stop people always start talking to me or commenting on my bike before I can get my helmet off! They always ask where I am going or coming from and it always opens the door for me to be able to tell them about what I do and hand cards out.  I love riding and networking. I meet a lot of people and get rid of a lot of stress all at the same time! Love it.

Truer words were never spoken....there are states and areas within them that may as well be separate countries for the differences in real estate...though sometimes you can apply things from here and there and adapt them to your own market.

The bottom line is, as you say, to treat each customer with professionalism and respect and that will make you successful. Those important referrals will come your way. This goes for real estate agents, mortgage consultants and anyone else.
