Route66Living.Com Gets Naked In Front Of Everybody!

Hi All,

Day two has come and gone... A lot of good work has been done by all and midnight oil is rapidly outpacing crude in value.  Today was a banner one for me in many ways.  I not only attended a class (I told you folks that I do a lot of learning), walked 20 homes in my farm with the support of one of my best friends Jodie Miller (who is six months pregnant with her first child), had a 1 1/2 hour phone and internet confab with Drew, my wonderful coach about my blogsite Route66Living.com, but I also did my VERY FIRST PROPERTY SHOWING!

Very exciting stuff indeed.  More about the showing later...

Here is what I wanted to let you all in on.  One of the things that Drew and I discussed tonight was the fact that, owing to the ultra short lead time between his arrival as a Project Blogger Coach, my arrival on Active Rain and my selection as his apprentice, we did not have the luxury of prebuilding, predesigning or even preparing my blog site ahead of time (I know we are not alone here), so rather than wait until everything is "just so" and doing all the tweaking and testing in private, and then launching fully formed, we are going to keep the entire process as public as we can.  By sharing this experience, as much as possible with everyone, we can all learn and grow together.

Tonight I learned a lot about using Wordpress, the "platform" (Wow! Already I have added so much to my blog building vocabulary, Platforms, Wordpress,No Doze...) or program that the posts are created in.  I learned how to see who is linking to my site and how to link to other peoples sites.  I learned what a Blog Roll is (it is a list of links to other blogs or sites that the owner of the blog likes and wants to share with others).  I learned how to post photos in the blog and even how to adjust the image size within the HTML code.

We also both decided that although the theme (background image and design) or "skin", that is currently on my blog site Route66Living.comis nice, it is not quite "it".  So, we are going to ask you folks to weigh in on the choice for the "look".  Over the next several days we will be trying on new "skins" (that's where the naked part comes in) and asking for feedback. I will post here to let you know when changes have occurred.  Of course, you are welcome, nay, encouraged to take a look at any point and let me know what you think.

Thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to visit my site thus far and to post such encouraging comments.  All I can say is Wow, am I ever grateful and just think, this is only the beginning...

Take care, help lots of people and have a wonderful day!

Wow, you did have a packed day. Kudos!

I have had my blog awhile but it's ugly as sin and my coach and I have not yet redesigned it, though I have some ideas in mind.  I will love to see what you do with yours!

Keep up the great work!

Hi Mary,

Thanks for the kudos, I will be excited to see what becomes of your site as well.  Remember ugly ducklings grow into beautiful swans!  I have put in quite a number of hours template or theme shopping on the free themes sites and will be happy to share info with you or anyone else who is interested.

Take care, help lots of people and have a great day!

I like your "BLOG" although it does look like a WEB SITE to me,, what is the difference? How did you attain a Mentor?

Hi Rick,

You are quite right, at the moment my blog does look a little more "websiteish", this will change as we determine what the background graphics will look like and as more content is added.

The main difference between a blog and a website is interactivity.  A website is usually a static, one-sided presentation.  A blog allows conversation via comments and postings from it's readers.  Ideally, a blog creates a community.

As for how I got my mentor, Drew joined the Project Blogger contest as a coach and then advertised for applicants to become his apprentice.  Concurrently, I joined Active Rain, wrote some pieces that got noticed and he decided I was the fortunate soul who would be given the chance of a lifetime.

Now, I have the opportunity to not only learn first hand, and in the barely 12 days since I first joined this site I have learned A LOT, I also have the opportunity to share what I am learning and to help guide others.  What a deal!

Thank you for your interest and for adding me to your Associates.  Please keep reading, writing and sharing.

Take care, help lots of people and have a nice day!
