Why aren't we building Every new Commercial Building and School green?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Apex California Realty

There is no doubt that building green is not only healthier for the people that occupy the building but it makes economic Sense...lets just say that building green saves green...in the long run!

Take a $5 Million dollar commercial building...the up front costs to go green vs. conventional will run about $100k more...the long term savings over 20 years? $1Million....Wow.

So why are we not building ALL buildings GREEN?....I think it is an education thing...people stuck in the old way of thought....Once the see in writting the benefits and how they work on economically they should at least give it strong consideration.

There is a comprehensive report entitled "The Costs and Financial Benefits of Green Buildings" that gives complete information on this and I highly recommend reading it if you are so inclined...

There are many laws and regulations that are either on the books now or will be soon that will require Green Building soon...I would think that most contractors that want to get a jump would be on the Green bandwagon immediately....

Whether they want to do it or not Contractors will Have to start building green here shortly...At least in California...They will have little choice...so why fight it...educate yourselves and change your thoughts now...

Change your thoughts and change your reality!

To Green Building!

Here Here!  I do not understand why people can see long term when it comes to going green.  The amount of savings that people can get from going green is amazing.  Why are people so short sighted?

I completely agree Richard. People are just so accustomed to building the same way. They don't realize it can be more cost effective.

I think we need leadership that are more conscious of the benefits or at least train the ones that are still in charge so they can prepare for change. Not just with going green but any change that has these long term benefits.  I am tired of just people doing the same things over and over, either train the ones that are in control or put some new fresh innovative people in position so we can see some change...
