Radon measurement has become a hot topic in central Ohio thanks in part to the internet but also from people moving to the buckeye state from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania where radon mesurment is as common as a termite inspection. Long term exposure to radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. A continuing education class that I attended last week said that approx. 50 people a week die from lung cancer caused by expoure to radon gas. (if terrorists were killing 50 people a week in the U.S. it would be on every front page of every newspaper in this country.)
The level of exposure to radon gas doesn't have to be over a long period of time. As your radon levels increase, your exposure time decreases. In other words, if you haven't had your own home tested, what are you waiting for? The radon kits that are available at hardware chains are good provided you read the instructions and set the kits where recommended. For real estate sales, it's recommended that you use a licensed professional.
