hanks to all the members that responded to our request for information about their <scripts> and widgets, we now have an "Approved" list for you to use as a guideline.  Our programmers have determined that the following are safe and available for you to use on the network.

For those of you who may have missed the original post, the ActiveRain Team is making an effort to try and keep the network from being compromised by any malicious and threatening scripts or HTML codes.  We asked ALL members who were using <script> widgets or codes on their Blogs, to let us know about them so we could do the research to determine which ones could and should be kept.

All widgets and <scripts> that were submitted and reported by our members have ALL been approved.  Any other scripts that have not been approved, will be stripped and simply won't work when trying to add them to your Blog.  This is for the safety and protection of the entire community.

If you have a <script> widget that you feel needs to be added to this list in the future, please let us know by simply leaving a comment with the name of the widget and the URL or web address location, and we will research it for you.  Do Not Post The Script or Code in the comments here, just the name and URL.

Thank you to all those members who took the time to investigate their Blogs and report back to us, this saved us hours of time and research.  It was a huge effort by the community, and I personally appreciate all your help and support.  I have noticed a huge difference in the speed of our site, and not that this had anything to do with it, but I certainly haven't missed that "Proxy Error" screen popping up this past week.

Hi Brad-I just can't say this enough. This community that we are all a part of is simply wonderful. Me being technology challenged I don't totally understand that side of the changes. Although I do understand the importance of this network and things running smoother, making life safer online, less complicated and frustrating. I'm also very much understanding that I have to learn more in the technology side. It is a challenge for me to say the least. I'm so much better on the people side of things but with so many of the posts you have done that I have bookmarked, I think will be a wonderful starting place for me to start to learn. If I run into a problem when I start this necessary process will it be OK if I e-mail you with a question. Am I right in thinking that to email you that I click on the e-mail me button just below your office number at the top of this post.  I've done that with a couple folks here(members) as a response back from what I figure has to be a e-mail from them. It was listed as a contact from them on the page that lets you know you've gotten a comment on a blog. But I never knew for sure that they received the one I sent. If I know that is what I do then I can e-mail you instead of cluttering up your comment section with things unrelated to your post. Although that is what my intention was when I started this comment. I will also do my best to keep them as short as possible. I know I'm long winded. I do apologize for that. You've been very kind to me and I appreciate that so much so I'd never want to do anything to make you regret that. You truly are a wonderful person. Thank you for everything that you do to make AR the amazing place it is. Have a great day and a wonderful week.

Can we get Postlets.com as an approved widget?  It's similar to VFlyer, except that there is no limit on the amount of Flyers you can have active at once for free. I have it on my blog now.  I did request it on the original post. :)

Do you know anything about HBM (Home Buyer's Marketing?)

Renee - not sure about HBM, just check to see if the widget they provide starts with <script> or not.  If it starts with <iFrame>, <embed>, or <object>, then you're good to go.  I haven't seen the widget they provide, if you have a sample of another member using it, I'd be happy to check it out for you.  :-)

5:07pm • #34

5:08pm • #35

Donna - LOL~  I actually thought about that before I hit the "Submit Comment" button and thought, what the heck, it will either make her laugh, or really tick her off, a chance I was willing to take.  Why? Because I know you better!  The nastiest comment I think you're capable of leaving would be like, "Great Post, thanks for sharing!!" haha  Enjoy your SearchMe Widget, I think I want one now too...  :-)

5:13pm • #36

Jeremy - luckily?  haha  :-)

5:14pm • #37

Mike - I don't think PictureTrail is a script widget so you sould be ok.  If it is a script widget, you'll know because it either won't work, or it will be gone.  You can always request it to be approved if that were the case.  Great to hear from you, I hope all is well.

Derenda - I have to agree, widget, gadget, gizmo, chicklet, they all sound funny to me too.  I still think the words and terms Blog, Blogger, and Blogging are funny too, and might be what prevents some people from doing it.  I never have really liked those terms or words.  My next post will be titled, I hate Blogs, Bloggers and Blogging...just the words of course, not the authors or the content on their WebLogs.  LOL~

Hey Brad, thanks for the list. Glad to see NVU on the list...

9:03am • #119

Michael - just don't over do it, too many can slow down your page and loading time. Some still use dial up.

Debi - they are worth checking out, as I said to Michael, just be careful to not Bog your Blog with them. :-)

Teresa - NVU is one you still have to be careful with, it sometimes places erroneous code that does some weird stuff to AR Blogs.  If you ever need to know more about that, just contact Katerina Gassett, she is a pro with NVU after experiencing some of those "hick-ups" She rocks with that program.

Brad- This does not affect linking codes in subscribe to my blog buttons, right? Just asking because my subsribe to my blog code's link gets corrupted a lot.

I want to put a link tracking code on my blog. Is that considered a script? I think so.

It is: Wholinks2me.com

Thanks.

Brad - I tried to add the Google Analytics script to "My Settings" but it is not letting me do it. Does this have anything to do with it? It says more than 100 words, not allowed.

12:13pm • #122

Katerina - no it doesn't.  Linking codes and HTML have no script in them.   Not sure about the WhoLinks2Me site, the best way to tell is when you go to copy their html code to place on your blog, look for it to start with <script><blah blah bla>, if it does, then let us know so we can check it out and add it to the list.  If it does NOT start with <script>, then you have nothing to worry about. Let me know, thanks. :-)

1:44pm • #123

Loreena - sounds like you may have too many items already added.  There is a limit to 100 characters (HTML not Included) you might want to see what you don't need as far as text goes, then try again. :-)

Brad, all I see there is the original one. I was hoping to see the new one that has all of these add-ons listed from this post. Maybe I am missing something.

9:05pm • #134

Danny - my bad, this is the list! LOL~

If your submission was not a script, then it's not on this list and it's ok.  Many members submitted widgets and gadgets that aren't script, those are all ok, we were only looking for the ones that had <script> in the beginning of the HTML code.  Sorry for the confusion, you're good to go. :-)

Is there a widget that I can add to my website that will pull the titles from my blog entries?

4:17pm • #151

Bill, yes there is.  It's called an RSS widget.  (Really Simple Syndication) You can see a demo of the one I use on my site at BradsDomain.com.  You'll probably find what you're looking for at WidgetWorld.  Let me know...   :-)

4:24pm • #152

Brad, thanks for the comment.  I can't find anything at WidgetWorld.  I love the one that you are using though!

5:11pm • #154

Ok, I figured out what you are using on your site (from www.grazr.com) and I created a widget there.  Now the problem I have is that only 10 entries from my blog show up even though there are a lot more.  Any tips on how to get all the entries to show up?

Bill - I think that widget is on WidgetBox, and you can set how many you want to show there. If not, you may need to select a different RSS widget.  Or go to Grazr.com to customize the one I'm using on my site.  It really easy to do. You can add as many entries as you want.  :-)

Hi Brad -

I can't get my statcounter to work anymore - what should I do?  Everytime I try to reload it, it says code corrupted or something - it stopped working just a few days ago.

3:00pm • #157

Courtney - they are working on adding all these allowable scripts back into the network.  Some are still being worked on.  I'll make sure the tech guys are on this.  Most scripts are working now, this one may have slipped through the cracks.  Thanks, we'll get it fixed.  :-)

Hey Brad, I hope you are doing well. I had a script that automatically appended "buttons" at the bottom of each of my post. http://www.freerealestatewidgets.com/activerain/bradsig.js This allowed people to stumble the site, connect with me on facebook, etc. Pretty harmless, and much easier than manually adding code to each posts (it adds to ALL posts so I don’t have to go back and edit anything). I would love to be able to still use this widget. Any chance this could get on the "approved" list? I actually planned on making this into a customizable widget available to all AR members.

Hi Brad, I just want to confirm if we know whether or not Statcounter will be on the allowed list? as of now it is still not working.Thanks.

5:32pm • #160

Brad - I'll have to check with the tech guys, I'm sure it will be ok as long as there's no var scripts or javascript that threatens the network. It sounds like a pretty harmless tool, but I don't have the final say. I'll be posting in the next day or two, all the allowable widgets and the new HTML white list.  I'm forwarding your comment on to have it reviewed. Thanks for your patience Brad.  :-)

8:48pm • #161

Michael - I'm not sure statcounter will pass the approval test.  Apparently there is some script or javascript that could be an issue on the network.  I will confirm, and then be putting up a post announcing the final approved widget list along with the new HTML acceptable code allowed on AR.

It'll be my next post coming shortly....

Mike - better late than never.  There are some cool widgets, just be careful not to get too hung up on them, they can slow down your page and even freeze or lock up your Blog if you have too many!  Take it from a guy with lots of experience.  :-)

what about a widget from kudzu.com showing my past reviews from satisfied customers?

11:58am • #168

Jennifer - we can add it to the list for review.  If it's not a script widget, it should already be fine.  Try it on your AR Blog and if it works, you're good to go.  If not, let me know and I'll propose it to the tech team. :-)

Hi Brad,

Thanks for this info. I'd like to request one for you to add, if possible. It's the html code for an optin form from 1ShoppingCart. It's not necessarily a widget, but it's an email subscription form. I've had quite a few signups thru ActiveRain, and would love to have that back on my sidebar if at all possible.

Thanks!

Brad,

I had MyBlogLog widgets in.  I wanted to re-arrange my side bar and now for some reason, I cannot get the script to take.  What gives???

Thanks

Leander

9:06am • #175

Leander - in the process of re-arranging and spring cleaning your Blog sidebar, you may have missed or possibly erased some of the MyBlogLog code. I would suggest going back to MyBlogLog and getting the HTML required for the widget you want to add and just re-paste it to your sidebar. Be sure you are using the "NON-JAVASCRIPT" widget on AR.  That would be the only thing I can think of that gives.  :-)
