7 Comments on Hello, Remember Me?
this is much needed today! Ever notice how many people don't know to stand when the flag passes, or how many people don't remove their hats....it is sad...
A lovely reminder of the symbol of our great country!
The flag represents so much - my kids just don't see it as a big deal, don't know why!
A young woman performed this in a pageant & audience members were moved to tears.
Stephanie, it is a shame that we haven't passed on to our children the respect that we once felt for the flag. I remember 15 years or so ago, a college at the University of Utah was going to burn a flag in validation of his first ammendment rights. I Vietnam Veteran took the flag away from him and let him know that regardless of how unpopular the war might have been, better people than he would ever hope to be died defending that flag and he should have enough courtesy to at least respect their sacrifice. That is the main problem I have with 1 of the political parties is that they seem to thrive by making us feel inferior as Americans. That's just wrong, regardless of who is in the White House, we need to respect our flag, the people that died defending it, and feel proud to be Americans!
Stephanie ~ Thank you for this post and thank you for the respect you give our nation and her flag.
Caren and Nicholas - Thanks for reading it, I'm glad you appreciate it!
Pat and Kathleen - Yes, I have noticed how the flag is often taken for granted. It's good to hear that a reminder did move an audience.
Terri, Tony and Darcy - My 13-year old stepson is becoming quite the Conservative and isn't afraid to debate students, and even his teachers, on various topics. But, I'm not sure he appreciates the flag as much yet, either. I always respected the flag as a kid, but I don't remember a big dealing being made about it other than we learned and said the Pledge of Allegiance every day. But now, almost every time I hear the Star-Spangled Banner it gives me chills or brings tears to my eyes. It makes me sick to hear of Americans that want to burn our flag. I agree with you, even if someone has an issue with how things are run, this country gives them the right to speak out against it and for that very reason, everyone should respect the flag.
