LIFE

Have you ever seen a kid in a candy store?  So many choices.  So many limitations.

Life is just like being a kid in a candy store.  You really CAN have whatever you like.  The question is, are you willing to do what it takes to get what you want?  The kid is first faced with a limitation.....Candy costs and he has a limited supply of money.

When I was a kid, penny candy costs a penny (some 2 for a penny).  In order to get money for candy, we would collect returnable bottles, old scrap aluminum, wash cars, clean out basements, carry groceries, help people move, etc.

Once he has collected his money, he must make a choice.....which type of candy will I buy today?

Life is the same for all of us.  You must start out with a vision.  And you must be able to see your vision daily.  Sean "P. Diddy" Combs is one of the most sucessful music moguls of this century.  He had a vision of a music company early in his teens.  He told everyone that he knew about his vision.  He worked tirelessly to achieve his vision.  In the end, he did.  Was it easy?  No.  Along the way he faced many obstacles which threatened to derail his dream.  However, he chose what he wanted and did not let ANYONE turn him away from his dream.

In order to get what you want:

Define Your Goals

Work Tirelessly Towards Your Goals

Help Others Along The Way

In the end, you CAN pick out your candy (dream), put your money (results of tireless dedication) on the counter and walk out of the store with a smile on your face (realization of your dreams)

Have a great day.

Helping others will always help you get what you want. It may not be the easiest thing to do but it will pay off in the long run. Thanks for some inspiration!

Well, P. Diddy, Sam Walton, or nobody else did it like you claim.

Oh Yes, they had a dream.

And Yes, They worked tirelessly to achieve that dream.

However, where you write....Help people along the way.

Should read, find people to help you along the way.

I have not followed P.Diddy's career, though I have heard of him, I've never actually seen one of his movies.

But I have read books on Sam Walton and Walt Disney.

Neither of them built their businesses by helping others, they built their businesses by employing people who could see the dream as they explained it.  They built their businesses by employing people who were respectively smarter than themselves within designated specialty areas.

I have had many dreams in my lifetime and have never really been able to assemble a team of believers to convert them into reality.

Therefore, your theory of you can have whatever candy you want, isnt completely true.

Thanks for bringing it up......

Leander, what a great analogy for fulfilling a vision. I have to disagree with Ed above. Napoleon Hill once said, "Whatever the mind of man can conceive, it can achieve." You can become what you dream, if you persist and are dedicated to your vision. Thanks.

Michael, I stand corrected, sir....If Napoleon Hill said it - it must be true!

If you would stop and think about how many of your friends...and you, have had dreams that were never realized, you would know.....B.S.

My friend, I wish you would wake up!

Leander - The corollary here is that you can never achieve a goal that is not first defined and second worked towards.

ED - No matter what we decide to do in life, there will be someone who will try to rain on your parade.  Since this is MY blog and MY opinion, that's all that really counts to me.  If it is inspirational to one other person, that's all that matters to me.  We can bring up countless other people besides Sean Combs, Sam Walton or Napleon Hill.  We can use many others to compare and contrast opinions.  I surely hope that things continue to go well for you.  As for me, I am picking out my candy :)

Have a great day

P Diddy certainly had a dream.  He has spent his money in a few candy stores and it has paid off.  Good example.

Leander, I'll take your positive outlook any day of the week. Dreams certainly won't be achieved through negative thinking. And I too remember the penny candy counter - we're not giving away our age, are we? lol

Leander - I am getting to this late, but you sure drove the point home.  To get what you want out of life you must set a goal and follow up with hard work.  It is important to offer a helping hand along the way.

I totally agree with you.  I see the top producers in our area giving back in so many ways and I think that helps them achieve their dreams.  I know that setting goals and then figuring out what is necessary to achieve them can help us toward our dreams, but your third point, HELP OTHERS ALONG THE WAY is also critical.  Don't let negative people change your mind.

Thanks for the blog and for reading my reply.  God Bless you and Good Luck!

Marian - Thank you so much.  We have to help others along the way. I was recently listening to an interview with Richard Branson.  He is very rich and a philanthropist. But one of his most interesting endeavors is called the Council of Elders. It is a group of influential people who are trying to solve some of the worlds problems.  We may not all be on the Richard Branson level....but there is something that we ALL can do to help someone.

Have a great day

Hello Fellow Exiteer,

Great Blog! I receive a fortune from a fortune cookie that reads "If you think you can, you can". I keep this on my computer screen to remind me that anything I want to achieve is achievable.

Love the message in this post...

I'm not sure how many of you know that coincidentally this is a title of a "newer" song on the radio - but that's actually what caught my eye to this blog. It's great to see how many people are open to the idea of pursuing your dreams now. I'm newer to the real estate business and have been fortunate enough to have mentors along the way encourage me to acknowledge my dreams and help formulate a plan to help me reach them!

To add some enlightenment to the post:

"Well, P. Diddy, Sam Walton, or nobody else did it like you claim.
Oh Yes, they had a dream.
And Yes, They worked tirelessly to achieve that dream.
However, where you write....Help people along the way.
Should read, find people to help you along the way."

I can understand the need to inform all viewers that some success isn't driven by helping others along the way, but rather getting helped by delegating the "mentor" role to your staff.

While P.Diddy was mentioned, I would've probably mentioned Russell Simmons or even Jay Z. I feel these two have impacted my generation and will continue to grow with their own individual success by aspiring others to follow their dreams. Both these men have come to the aid of the youth through various educational programs and even through their lyrics. I really do appreciate that even in a competitive commission based business, there are still those out there inspiring the masses to succeed.

Success is not a competition.  By realizing that, you free yourself to help others, even if they might be competitors. And in doing so, you gain relationships, and those can be amazingly valuable. Helping others can come back to help you in a myriad of different ways.

Our inspiration, motivation and continual rejuvenation of each other only helps the professional elevation of our industry as a whole.  That's what I get every time I log on to Active Rain and see things like this. Thank you for your positive words of encouragement.  I appreciate it!

And Congratulations on your Featured Post!

Thanks for the great post, Leander. I only recently finally "got it." You really can have anything you want. Just believe and know it's yours. Changing my way of thinking has been and continues to be a journey, but this new attitude has certainly made it easier getting out of bed in the morning and the results are the best! Just believe, believe, believe!!

Great post. For some reason, all 3 are important, but I like the idea of helping others along your way. Defining your goal and working tirelessly will get you somewhere, but it's sure nicer to get there with friends at your side who you have helped to achieve their goals. I guess that's why I enjoy my job so much. My goals are met when I help others achieve their goals.
