What was your score? Three out of five? Four out of five? Well if you scored higher than one out of five, you beat my score. I don't claim to be up on all the latest numbers, but I do work hard to recycle and keep my car emissions to a minimum.

Basically, everybody can stand to learn a little about the environment and the ways in which we can reduce carbon footprints. If you are passionate about incorporating and promoting environmental practices in real estate, consider becoming EcoBroker certified. In a competitive market, this is one certification that sets you apart from the rest. Real Living understands the growing market for eco-friendly real estate, so we offer our agents the opportunity to earn an EcoBroker designation through Real Living's Real University. By becoming an EcoBroker, you'll learn how to better address environmental issues such as:

               • Radon, asbestos, lead and mold

I scored a whopping 2! Thanks for making me more aware of my ignorance on this subject! I don't claim to be green, but I am big into recycling and reusing what I have!

I guess 3 out of 5 isn't bad. Glass lasting the longest really got me.

Great Post!

That was fun!

I scored a 3 out of 5. The glass bottle got me too. ( I chose the disposable diaper...naturally since I'm a father of six).

Great post, great topic and Real Living is to be applauded for being earth friendly. I'm very interested in learning more about the Eco-Broker designation. We always seem to be on the cutting edge in our industry which makes me proud to be a part of the Real Living Team...

... but I'm also a "green" skeptic... (think I'll also post this when I'm done)

...We all need to be good stewards of this wonderful planet that God has blessed us with, but hear me out.

Too many of the claims and statistics by the radical green crowd (not you Kaira), are backed by junk science, poor scientific cause-and-effect methodology, and usually are done by people with an agenda. A great deal of the hard-core greenies have agendas that are either: anti-business; anti-capitalism; anti-American...or they are downright misleading to feed their own greed, as evidenced by the academic industry that produces claims and theories and then gets grants to study them and does  writing of books and papers, to line the pockets of their universities and themselves. They love scare tactics and the "crisis of the month". It's an industry in and of itself.

For example:

--man-made global warming. It's supported by junk science and more and more experts are backing off of it now. Notice how the name has changed from "global warming" to "global climate change". This durable planet of ours goes through cycles of climate change and I don't fell man has much impact on this...(Pollution is another topic). This year in northern Alaska and further north, it's been the coldest of the past 20 years and glaciers, ice packs and snow packs are growing.

--Remember the polar bears? Greenies love to show a photo of a polar bear floating on a small chunk of ice. First off, they can swim...and love to. Second of all, the polar bear population has been on the rise for years...they are quite healthy.

--Remember the fight to stop logging of mature forests in the northwest to save the spotted owl, as that was the only habitat they could survive in? Well, they are very adaptable and have even been seen nesting in the "a" of K-mart signs in Seattle. Another eco-terrorist scare tactic. Timber is a renewable crop, just as corn or soybeans are...Though, part of "renewable" means there should be some regulations for replacement of harvested timber. I definitely don't approve of clear cutting and not replacing. Timber harvest should be selective and managed properly.

--The list goes on and on. Every year or two, there's a crisis, and there's money to be made and federal regulations to be passed to get in the way of business and people's rights, from businesses to farmers.

AGAIN, DON'T GET ME WRONG. POLLUTION IS BAD. WASTE IS BAD. I'M ALL FOR ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES BLENDED IN THE MIX. BUT WE NEED TO DRILL FOR THE OIL WE HAVE, TOO. I'M ALSO FOR CONSERVING FUEL. I USE ENERGY EFFICIENT BULBS, WINDOWS, HEAT WITH WOOD AND WANT ONE OF THOSE TINY "SMART" CARS BUT NOBODY WANTS MY BIG TANK OF A CHEVY SUBURBAN (I OWE MORE THAN IT'S WORTH ANYWAYS). WHEN AN AFFORDABLE, EFFECTIVE ELECTRIC CAR COMES OUT, I'LL BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO BUY IT.

SORRY TO GO OFF ON A TANGENT, KAIRA...BACK TO YOUR TOPIC...IT'S GOOD TO BE GREEN FOR THE PLANET AND FOR THE FAMILY BUDGET...AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T GO TOO FAR.

Cathy- You are our winner! Yay!

Elaine & Amy- Being green is hard, I understand. It takes effort but I think its great when everyone one does what they can. I feel a lot of us think we understand how items decompose but its actually much larger than us. Recycling and reusing are great ways to help conserve.

Dave- I understand where you are coming from and I do think it is important to know that their are radicals out there on this topic. My hopes for this green movement is that people just have a better understanding of how their actions are impacting other people, animals and the enviroment. From that knowledge, I hope everyone will take small steps into finding how they can help conserve. I a form that fits their lifestyle.
