Grass

Hard to believe when you walk out and feel the temperature but it is actually fall in South Texas.  I loved the weatherman this morning when he said temperature this weekend would be closer to normal, 85.  85 in the fall, geez, oh well the rain yesterday was really nice.  We got over an inch at our house.  And speaking of rain, as my grass cried out in ecstasy, I realized it was time to do something about that poor brown patch with some green sticking up here and there.

These are the three things that everyone should do in the fall to have a beautiful lawn in the spring (course this depends on if we get enough rain that we can actually water next year)

  1. Reseed to cover bare patches and thicken your grass.  Dense grass resists weeds, so lets make a beautiful carpet of deep soft green grass.
  2. Fertilize now to strengthen it for next spring.
  3. Use a core aerator to loosen compacted soil when the ground is moist.  The loose soil will make your grass have a stronger root system.

So there's your weekend project for you and if you lawn looks really great next year invite us over for BBQ, OK?

Amy - Thanks for reminding me of all the things I need to do. We have been fighting brown patch. Did buy three pallets of turf to replace when we put in the new driveway. Just seeded down front close to the road. The rain we got certainly will help just as long as it is not to hard to wash my soil away. Enjoy the rain and cooler weather.

I'll be waiting for my invite to the BBQ.

Amy, I had five kids in six and half years. Now they are 23, 21, 20, 18 and 17. Boy, I am glad it wasn't my body producing them. I found the breakpoint for chaos was three kids. Once you hit three kids...you might as well have ten. It is all the same chaos and work.  :) -- So, get busy lady. Seven more kids to go.

That's OK, I'll stop with my 3, thank you very much.  But I do know someone else that had 8 and she basically said the same thing as you, pretty much after the 3rd it just happens.
