Beechcraft BaronAnother glorious fall day for flying with Lee's Saturday morning group. We took our Beechcraft Baron to Cambridge again for a delightful lunch at Kay's. This time there were several Pitts Specials at the airport including a red and blue flame beauty belonging to Randy, our friend's son. After lunch, the guys said, "Hey Margaret, you wanna go up with Randy?" It was sort of a dare, since you'll remember I went up in an experimental plane not too long ago. Wheeee What Fun! This is Flying…the Rest is Just Transportation!

Pitts Special

Of course, I took them up on it, and thought to myself, "Oh, there is blog coming on!" Randy showed me how to climb in, one foot goes here, the tush goes here, step on the seat and sit on the parachute, put your feet on the metal spaces on each side, buckle everything in. Within a few minutes we were taxiing down the runway in an S pattern. Randy assured me he had not been drinking. Yep, because this is a tail dragger, you cannot see out the front while on the ground unless you waggle side to side as you go. Before I knew it, he said, "Are you ready?" and we were off - straight up like a rocket. Both ears popped. What excitement!

Banking left Wind in the wires

I learned later that the Pitts Special is the world's leading high performance aerobatic aircraft, and that it's as happy flying upside down as it is right side up. No, we didn't turn over, but we could have! It was so much fun, and I want to go again when we have more time. As it was, I kept postponing a listing appointment that was at 2:00, changed it to 3:00, then 4:00, then 5:00 pm. Who needs another listing in this market?

Pitts LineThere were five other Pitts parked in Cambridge that day, but none as pretty as "our" Pitts. If you ever get a chance to fly in one, take it – you won't  be able to stop grinning!

Great photos!  My son in-law is a flight instructor and would love your post.  I've flown with him and being in the air is truly a wonderful feeling.  The sites are great from high above!

Greg, This is a wonderful way to get away without having to get too far away. A trip like this is very rejuvinating. A vacation in a 1/2 day..and lots of fun.

Margaret,

I completely agree with you about the Listing Will Have to Wait.  You only have one life to live and so many times people pass on their times of fun to chase the deal, get the listing, etc., but then they are the people that look back on life and say " I Wish " alot of times.  I wish I would have done this or that.  I wish I would have went here or there.
To me that is not a fun life.  That is human entrapment. Entraping yourself to your career is very expensive-- costing you your fun/enjoyable times in life.

I bought a Harley Davidson this summer and learned how to drive it the day I bought it--- I love riding it, its my enjoyment, meeting up with friends and going on a ride for charity with 20 to 200 bikes is a rush I cant explain.  But you know what I mean-- when you do the airplane rides.  Some other agents told me that is a bad idea because I can not answer the phone on a bike and may miss a call.   Well if I miss a call, they can leave a message or I can call them back when I stop.  If I miss a listing due to that fact then so be it.  My life and enjoyment are not worth giveing up.

To all out there, remember you only have one life to life-- are you living to have fun and enjoyment?

Very cool!  My parents had a Bonanza...similar to a Baron I think.  Looks similar anyway.  One day I'll learn to fly!

Jason, The Bonanza is also made by Beechcraft. The Baron just has another engine. Make that one day happen. Maybe put a plane on your keychain..you know what I mean.

I am so jealous - I have been flying for 18 years and I have never been in a Pitts.  I love the Baron, and would like to own one some day...
