OK, most of you have an answering machine, but now all of us make the best use of it. Some have the children talking on it or the dog barking or whatever. You're in business, so  please leave a message on your answering machine that lets people know you're in business.

Chuck, good idea!  Nothing worse than calling someone (my daughter) on a cell phone and having to listen to some crap music that she likes until the call goes through!  I think even in our personal lives, our answering machines should be respectfull of others!

Chuck, simple yet insightful. It is always the little things that the customer does not think is little that hurts our business. Always think like a customer. I just had to go double check my answering machine message, it is good!!

What is the fun in that. I once received a 3 minute call from an Agent who was opening a soda, talking to kids and listening the the car radio as the car door bell dinged. I could not help but listen to the whole thing!-Dinah

Chuck, when you think about typing out your next three line rant, try to spell at least most of the words right. you are = you're

Short and to the point! I have to agree with Ed, that music while waiting for someone to answer is very annoying at times. And, Yes, I've called on a few realtors and the children answered their cell phones. Nothing business like about that!

I Agree.  State who you are and what you do!  Just for the simple fact that people will know who they are leaving a message for.

Good morning John, hope you are have a better day to-day, I am sorry if you thought that it was "a three line rant". It was not meant that way, and yes I did not check it for any errors, so please except my humble apology.

Charles, you are right. Kids on an answering machine message is entertaining for the grandparents only.

I completely agree! If it's your business line it needs to reflect that - I have called a few home based businesses and listened to a child's voice telling me to leave a message and that made me question how serious this person was about their business.

If this is someone's first point of contact with you it's not a great impression to be leaving.

So John thought that was a three-line rant? Apparently he hasn't been in business long enough to see a good rant. LOL

I've never been one for silliness on an answering machine. I want people to meet me first and get to know me before realizing that I'm really silly. LOL again.

A couple of years ago I called a Realtor to inform her that I was going to visit her listing. Here's her answering machine message:

"Hello. ... Hello. ... HELLO! ... Is anyone there? ... I can't hear you. ... If someone is there, we must have a bad connection, so please call back."

When I called back, I got voice mail, so I left a message. After pressing the # key to end the message, I was informed that their voice mailbox was full and that I couldn't leave a message.

I didn't show the property.
