New harbor Paynes dockColumbus Day Weekend is a great time to go to Block Island, Rhode Island! For those of you that have not heard of Block Island, it is a small, mostly still untouched, island off the coast of Rhode Island. You can get there by taking the Block Island Ferry, either High speed or the traditional ferry (takes about 55 minutes from Point Judith, Rhode Island)

The reason Columbus Day weekend is such a good time to go there is mostly because it does not get as crowded as in the middle of summer. There are a few shops still open, many have closed for the season, but there are some great specials going on in the one's that stay open for this last weekend.

My brother, who is a Block Island fan, decided to have his wedding on the Island at the Narragansett Inn Narragansett Inn BIand many of us got rooms there for the weekend. The service was wonderful, however you need to be a Block Island lover and remember that these Inns on the Island are "traditional". We had no TV, pretty much a room with a bed in an old Historical house, with an incredible view!

Block Island Tour BusWe all rode on the Block Island tour bus, took a couple of trips to North Light where the wedding would take place. My brother and his fiancee had asked me to officiate at the wedding and I was delighted to oblige. You can see the North light in the distance in this photoCeremonyAfter the ceremony, we all went back to the Inn for great food, music and dancing. The music was provided by the "Booze Beggars of Block Island"  One of the guests wrote a song called Second Chances for the happy couple and is sending all of us a CD. All in all the weekend was absolutely perfect and the weather cooperated.

I also found out I am going to be a grandmother again!! Here is my daughter in law with my new baby girl on the waymorgan and the proud grandmother (me) on the porch of the Narragansett. It was tough to choose just a few photos for this blog as I have hundreds, of course, both my husband and I having been the owners of Chrysalis, a Virtual tour company, we just can't help ourselves:)

hi Karen,

What a beautiful place to hold a wedding! It looks like you had the picture perfect weekend for it too....I love the old Inn that you stayed at.

I didn't realize that you are qualified to marry people.....how wonderful to be able to officiate at your own brother's wedding.

Congrats on the new grandchild on the way!

Karen, That is picture perfect.  Wall paper, and then that big boat was the first thing that popped up.  Yes, it meant love.  Looks like a fun wedding.  Congrats!

Karen... first off, congrats on being a grandmother again....  Secondly, I love beach weddings... I think they are very romantic.  Question... what is the time difference between the high speed ferry and the traditional ferry?  thanks

Karen, I'm so glad the weekend was as beautiful as we had hoped it would be.  A perfect New England Fall Day for the wedding.  :)  I had forgotten that you were going to officiate -- I should have invited you down last November to officiate at my wedding.  :)

Congratulations on another Granddaughter!

Karen CONGRATULATIONS to your brother and you.  I can handle the no TV but it is the shared bathrooms at these places that get me.  I need my own space .......... LOL

Hi Jo, Nice to see you:) Yes, it was a gorgeous weekend. I wasn't qualified until this past year.

Charlie, Thanks, I was wondering if anyone noticed my Fall Wallpaper:)

Yolanda, ha ha, you do know I am a Broker? That's what my son says...A Deaconess, a Broker, a Notary Public...what else?

Jeff, It was actually my first beach wedding, but it was great. There is about 20 minutes difference between the two ferrys from Point Judith. Not sure from Long Island which is where you would get it from, I think.

Judi, I am thrilled. Actually I suspected it in the summer when they were here, but they denied it!!!

George, lol, We paid "extra", quite a bit extra in fact to have our own bathroom!!! We were also on the third floor...

Karen:  So glad I could see some of the photos - what a perfect day - no clouds in the sky.  Congratulations on being able to officiate at your brother's wedding - what a special time to be chosen for that by a family member - and congrats on the new grandbaby.  My nephew just had a garden wedding and the weather was so bad before and after - but perfect for the wedding.  I bet they were very happy.

Deb, Thanks for the compliment, I am trying not to look like a grandmother:) Although I love being one.

Bill, It's about time you went there! It's one of the last natural Islands in the world!!  You won't be dissapointed, but you need to spend at least a few days to get the ambience of it..

Hi Karen, Congratulations on the new grandbaby on the way! What lovely photos and what a perfect day for a wedding. Never did get to Block Island. Closes I got to  was a freezing snowy  night with no heat in a Narraganset beach house. But that's another story:)

Monika, They are all of the people, barely any of the Island. You would be bored to death:)

John, I checked out your post, very nice!

Ginger...Thanks..Now the freezing snowy night with no heat in a Narraganset beach house sounds intriging!! I'm guessing you didn't expect the snow when you came here?
