Steps

Through Localism, you can provide a unique resource for potential clients and residents.  You know your community, and you know who relocates to your community.  Many of us have been farming an area for years.  We know the type of information our market appreciates.  We also know what potential newcomers wish to know about our area.

When I was mailing out post cards and flyers, I usually got some type of feedback.  For example, one neighbor said, "I love the monthly flyer you send out, listing the home sales in the neighborhood ... but please, nix the recipe cards."   I sent out only one and it was my last!

My neighbors like real information ... about the housing market, the local economy, historic houses, new developments, etc.  Forget the hokey stuff.

One new customer who is currently living in NYC is most concerned with shopping and schools.  Another is more interested in being able to walk to restaurants, movies and transportation.  These are just two examples, but you get my drift.

We know our clientele very well.  With all the information we have garnered, we can make Localism the perfect site for residents and potential residents alike ...a true neighborhood resource. As Realtors we have a competitive advantage when it comes to knowing people.  We should use it!

In my area, Paddy Pizappi was an early adapter of the Localism pages (Orange County, NY).  For me, she set the standard.  Paddy has her finger on the pulse of her community, and she knows how to use it (actually, all ten of them) to stay in touch ... to be that local expert.

Why not be your community expert ... Localism is the way.

Agree 100%.  Localism is limitless.  Takes time to do it right, but it's worth it and helps you become known in the community too!

Thanks for the advice.  I am going to spend more of my time on this site.

I agree.  Localism generated 5 leads for me in the 2 months I had the site up, and I only spent a half hour putting a little blog about a couple of neighborhood attractions.  The more we develop it, the greater the return will be on our 9 dollar per month investment.

Kind Regards,

Manolis

Hi Loreena ... Yes!  I know I do not spend enough time with it.

Hi Penny ... It does take time; there is a bit of research to do!  It's like being a reporter!

Hi Pat ... Good luck!  I think some of my time on AR could be put to better use on Localism.

Hi Manolis ... Good for you!  I had one lead so far from a post on an outlet center.  You never know.

Good Morning Marie -   my neighbors like real information too - and that is what I try to provide in my localism.com posts!    Did anyone ever get their landrush t-shirts??  Hmmm??  I wonder!

Kara ... You do a great job with local posts ... I've noticed :)  I only sponsored one little town, so I don't know about the shirts.

Marie, Both yours and Paddy's localism posts are wonderful!  I have always enjoyed writing them and showing pictures of some very special places.  I have Localism to thank for many people finding me.

Hi Marie - absolutely love Localism and I am currently concentrating on posting to Localism more than to AR. I feel like we are just beginning to scratch the surface on localism and it has so much more to offer. ~Rita

Localism is a great tool.  I bought two towns, ones that people would relocate to.  I have been doing my best to create good informative blogs, post pictures, etc.

Marle,

It might be interesting to know what percentage our members post on Localism and what percentage on AR.  I've found  myself refocusing my efforts to tilt heavily to Localism as that is where I'll find those buyers and sellers.  I love hearing some of the comments from people who find me on Localism.  They automatically think I'm the expert in their area.  Works for me.

Thanks for the shoutout Marie.  I appreciate it.  You are absolutly right about the information people want to know.  Hope to never see another recipe card post card again, LOL.  My last broker (from years ago) was big on them but then again she is from the old school.  Have a great Thursday!

I love localism.  I have a list things I am planning to write about including some local businesses I want to interview.  Now, I just need to schedule some time to do it.

Great points.   I have recently discovered the Localism thing.  I feel I can be more transparent with my Localism post. I know if I talk about my favorite football team, the Redskins, people here find that interesting.  It is a comfort zone.  Thanks again.

Hi Marie,

Nice blog.  I've neglected localism & mailings, but you've inspired me.  Just out of curiosity, what inspired you to use Tao in the title (I'm a huge fan of the Tao te Ching).

Hi Rita ... Exactly!  Getting in on the ground floor is always exciting.

Hi Jean ... Thank you!  And good luck developing your area in Localism.

Hi Carol ... Good for you and best of luck.  Right now, I sponsor only one.  In the future, maybe I will do more.

Hi Charles ... Yes, we can sponsor towns.  Check out Localism ... instructions are there.

Hi Laura ... Thank you!  I'm on the front page?  Could not sleep last night, and I just stumbled out of bed.

Hi Diane ... Happy to hear that it works for you.  I know in my area, Localism does not seem to be used by many.  There's a post for you!

Hi Paddy ... You are welcome!  It has been terrific to have someone like you (in my area) to learn from.  :)

Hi Pam ... I realized also that I needed to get out there and interview.  So, Localism posts are more time consuming, but I believe well worth it.

Hi Jeremy ... I think so too. The hard work should pay off.

Hi Pippa ... Why, thank you. :)

Hi Brien ... Good points!  Yes, it is a comfort zone ... we are speaking to our neighbors.

Hi (OOPS! no name) ... Thanks.  You guessed my inspiration ... the Tao Te Ching.  I have had a copy for decades and have referred to it periodically throughout my life.  Tao means Way, but much more ... so I thought it appropriate.

Hi Michael .. That's terrific and I agree about the irons in the fire.

Hi Ronnie ... Mahalo!  Since posts are on both AR and Localism, I've been looking at my stats on AR ... not sure if there is a way to track Localism separately.  Good question though ....

Hi Debbie ... Thank you so much!  Good luck with Localism!

Hi John ... Why, thank you!  You are right.  These social networking sites have really made a difference.

Hi Kevin ... Thanks!  Hope you are doing well :)

Hi Ron ... You're welcome.  I think it's well worth the effort.  Good luck!

From the moment I joined AR, I've used localism to target consumers in my community and it's paid off.  Very rarely do I write for the AR community specifically although I love my friends!
