Skyline drive is a 105 mile scenic drive that runs the length of Virginia's Shenandoah National Park. The road runs generally along the ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains within the park. The drive is particularly popular in the fall leading to congestion most weekends. Annually over two million people visit the park.

Personally I have seen countless deer along the drive as well as wild turkeys, several large black bears and cubs and even a bobcat. I visit Big Meadows every summer as the Fawns generally foal the last week of May through the first week of June, making for some memorable early morning photography.

Bryant - It looks beautiful, an area I want to see one day. I read about it when reading "A Walk In The Woods" by Bill Bryson, but now that I've seen how beautiful it is, I may need to move it up the To Do list!

Bob-

Thank you, I have been thinking lately that I get so much positive feedback about my photography and I am enjoying writing these travel blogs that I am toying with the idea of writing a few travel magazine articles or a travel book with my photography included! Thanks again for all the encouragement and I will continue to post my images as long as people are enjoying them.

Bryant  Skyline - we love to spend a few days at Big Meadows Lodge in the Fall, but couldn't make it this year.  My husband has camped with his Boy Scout troop in all four seasons,  Karen

My grandfather wrote "Memories of a Lewis Mountain Man" to chronicle life on the Shenandoah National Forest before the Skyline Drive.

Will-

That is awesome I am going to buy that book today. I have read several books on the residents of the area before the forcible removal of the inhabitants around Grandfather Mountain, Syria, and the surrounding counties. Thank you for referring me to this new book!

I love deer. They're like children, with gangly legs and boney elbows, but at the same time, they're graceful. I know. It's a strange description, but that's how I see them.
