The Christian & Accountability

Whether we think in terms of our business or our professional life, success depends upon many factors  One of those factors is accountability.  Some of us desire to have accountability in our lives, others don't.  Yet, all of us probably need it.

The question is...what do we do when we realize we need it?  Will we suddenly be accountable to ourselves and take the necessary action to install accountability into our lives, or will we just hope that the positive changes we hope for will happen on their own.  I venture to say that many choose the latter of the two.

I wrote a blog regarding Enoch and his walk with God recently.  Many of us would love to say that we walk with God as Enoch did, but we know that we don't.   Have you ever wondered if we could walk with God as Enoch did?  Which of us are willing to do that which will accomplish this desire?  Sure, some of you may take a bit of action after you read this.  You probably already know from previous Bible study that the end-time is probably just around the corner.  So what will YOU do now?

I know that I need accountability in my life, and I really don't have it right now.  I also know that I want it, therefore I have decided to do something about it.  The purpose of writing this blog is to reach out to those of you who, deep down inside, know that a certain level of accountability is missing in your life, and like me, you want to change this fact.  You want to take action & do something now before it is too late....BEFORE Jesus comes!

The Scriptures tell us that Jesus will say to some, "Away from me ye workers of iniquity, I never knew you."  Christianity is all about the relationship, and many of us, myself included, tend to let the little things in life keep us busy.  Maybe now is the time to make changes and order our priorities.

Join with me in deciding to put accountability into our lives & join the new Christian Accountability Group  Shall We Gather At The River. Some of us may choose to open up our hearts, and follow my lead by discussing these things within the group.  Some of you may not be ready to take that step yet, but you are more than welcome to read until you are ready...even participate a bit here and there as you see fit.  Everyone is invited...all are welcome!

Examine yourself and ask
yourself if as a Christian you might be like me, and desire more accountability in your life.  Hey....I find this step a bit scary.  I've never done this before...but I really feel that I need to.

We won't limit the group to just talking about accountability.  Let's dig into God's Precious Word while we are at it, after all, this is a large part of being accountable as a Christian.  There is nothing more important than spending time with God!

Let's lift each other up and encourage one another on a daily basis.  Let's keep each other focused on the things that are important...the things of God!      Read Phil 4:8

You are so welcome Evelyn!  When one falls, or is having a difficult time, it is good to have another close by to help you get back up or to encourage when possible.  An accountability group will offer so much more than accountability, for when we hold each other accountable, we also learn to trust and to lean on one another, especially in difficult times.  A group such as this will build tremdendous bonds over time between those who participate.

If you need someone to talk to, please give me a call.  I'm a great listener, or so I've been told many, many times.  When you call, remind me to share with you a little secret that helps you get through hard times.  It really helps.  I will share it with the group in the near future...but why wait, I'll tell you now!

Thank you Alexander...for the comment and the feature.  I went searching for Christian Groups, and found only a small handful, and I know that I am in need of some accountability in my life, and remembering something my Pastor said once...  "Greg, if as a Christian, there is something you feel needs to be done, or you have a need that isn't being met, maybe it is God's way of calling you to action,"  so in knowing my needs, and not really finding it, I felt impressed to start the group.

I sort of have a bit of a feeling of what Moses may have felt.  On one hand, I really don't feel qualified to lead such a group, but on the other hand, we all have talents and should use them as best as we can and let the Lord worry about the rest.  I will definitely be looking for feedback from our members, and I will want to know how they all feel this group can best serve all of our needs in accomplishing our goals in regards to our Christian walk and accountability.  I will start a thread about this later today.

May God bless you Greg for taking this step of faith.  I quickly joined the group after reading this post.  I agree with you wholeheartedly and feel that accountability is missing from the body of Christ today.  I think time (and watered down Gospel) has drawn us away from intimacy with our Savior.  The farther we are apart from Him the harder it becomes to remember our absolute dependence upon Him.

I simply love the fact that you mentioned us "getting in the Word" while also holding one another accountable.  I would love to suggest, as an introduction to one another, that we walk through a book or devotional study and post our revelations and breakthroughs...prayers and praise reports here.

There is a book...The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer that is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME.  It is a book written many many years ago that seems so necessary today.  It can be a tough read if moved through at too quick of a pace.  It's written in what I call "early century" english so there is that slight challenge at times but moreso some of the truths expressed can truly leave you speechless.

If there are any takers...I am going to post this is our new group as well!!!  Remember, this is just a suggestion and I will not be offended if no one wants to do it.

Be Blessed!

Hi Tracy!  Thanks for your suggestion!

Getting into the Word is in my opinion one of the most important things we can do.  Through my many conversations with others, I also know that unless we are very disciplined, this is one area that very busy people have the most problems with.  There is always that little thing we tell ourselves..."let me do this first, then I'll read that chapter."  Oh, I have done this many times myself, and somehow getting around to reading that chapter just somehow doesn't seem to happen.  In just the past few weeks this has happened to me many times and is just one of the reasons I wanted to start this group.  I know I need some accountability, and I know that there are many others who are not so different from me.  If we work together, and have a place like this we can gather and study together, and encourage each other and hold each other accountable...then our walk with the Lord will be so much better.

I love your idea of walking through a book together.  Do you have any interest in leading out with that book?  Even if people don't have a copy they can still join in regarding the comments that have been made.  I took a huge financial blow in the past year and buying anything outside of food & gas and paying the mortgage is mostly out of the question as I am so far behind on many things and it will take awhile to catch up...and besides that, I just made a move to a different company for ethical reasons, and it will take some time to get things moving in the right direction there...so I know I won't be able to buy it for some time, but I can definitely enjoy the commentary and discussion, and I am sure I could still pariticpate.

I will encourage anyone who has any book that inspires them to share what they are learning and are inspired by on a regular basis, whether it is a Book of the Bible, or a devotional book, or any other book.  I read lots of little tidbits in differening books that I bought for just that reason when I used to moderate Christian Discussion boards, and you will find me adding a number of postings to lift the spirit and to cause some reflection.  I like to dig for things that make us think.

And...if anyone takes any offense at your suggestion...they probably are in the wrong place.  Having moderated Christian Discussion boards in the past, I know that there are many Christians who are disagreeable and find insult simply because they look for it.  Those people usually don't walk with the Lord in my opinion.  If they are here because they want to change this aspect of their lives, I encourage them to join us.  If they are here to stir up and cause dissention, I will boot them.

Although I know that people will disagree because different denominations have differing beliefs, arguing/bickering over the Word, finger pointing, Church attacking, etc. will not be tolerated in any way here.  I have a friend in England with whom I used to moderate one Christian board together, and our beliefs are very different, yet we were able to peacefully study and compare our differences, and never had one argument.  We talked for hours on the phone too and never had one little problem.  I see too many Christians willing to fight over their differences.  I think we should study our differences and see why we may believe differently.

I know that with so many different beliefs out there, I am concerned....could my Church have some error in it?  I think most do.  That is a reasonable conclusion as there are over 400 donominations.  I am more concerned about having God's Truth than proving someone else wrong, or proving that my Church is correct, especially when I should be more concerned as to whether or not my Church may be one of the hundreds with error in it.

As for this group, I want to focus on Accountability first, and this includes studying God's Word.  I hope everyone participates by posting or commenting about things that God inspires them to do.

So please....share your book with us, and hopefully the Lord will provide me the means to get that book soon.  I have hundreds of Bible Studies, and hundreds of books, but that is not one that I remember having.  You certainly have me wanting to run and get it!  I love to be left speechless, and hopefully with a tear in my eye.  I find great comfort in "tears of joy!"  I am looking forward to this study!!!

Hi William - For some reason that seems like a hard lesson for us to learn.  We see so much evidence of that in the OT too.

Hi Greg,

Give me a holler when you get back online and once you have had an opportunity to download the first chapter from the link.  I am not opposed to starting with just us.  Others may come...or not...God will be glorified nonetheless.

Hi Tracy - I searched and found the link, here it is for all who want it:
http://www.heavendwellers.com/hdt_knowledge_of_the_holy.htm

My time online has really been limited lately as we are in the midst of somewhat of a family crisis and it is costing me lots and lots of time.  I will make time for this though.  I'll get started on the book today.  Thanks Tracy.  By the way, will we start with the Intro, or Chapter 1?

EDIT:  I just started reading the intro...the first two paragraphs touched on a really great point.  I'll email you my thoughts on that since we haven't officially started the study yet.
