Purpose: This historical day represents the online movement throughout the world to promote awareness and particpation in fighting against poverty. Bloggers unite to promote thier influence through blog participation, videos and other creative online marketing platforms. Last years movement was based on the environment this year is based on poverty.
411 behind Poverty: First of all thank you very much for checking out my blog. I know that sometimes people look past things that doesn't help themselves out personally or gain personal gains from reading this and thats fine thats human nature but not everyone is like that and I thank those people who are not that way.
Poverty from the wikipedia definition is
" deprivation of common necessities that determine the quality of life, including food, clothing, shelter and safe drinking water, and may also include the deprivation of opportunities to learn, to obtain better employment to escape poverty, and/or to enjoy the respect of fellow citizens."
So bottom line is the deprived state of being poor. Poverty is most commonly seen in third world countries but in Reality poverty exists everywhere including here in the United States of America.
Below are some powerful Poverty Statistics to consider from http://www.globalissues.org

- At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day.
- 26,500-30,000 children die each day due to poverty
- Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names
- Some 1.1 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to water, and 2.6 billion lack basic sanitation.
- 1.6 billion people — a quarter of humanity — live without electricity:
My 2 cents:
We may complain about the current stock market....
We may complain about our jobs...
We may complain about the Real Estate Market....
We may complain about Gas Prices...
The Reality is ...we should all be humble and grateful for what we have.
Our problems in essence is really tiny compared to the struggles and current situations of the world around us.
What we can do:
We have the power to change the world whether we help out 3rd world countries or help out people in our own country....its the Power of Influence...Leading by Example...and overall Karma.
Even if its something very small as donating a can to the Salvation Army this year...or volunteering time for the homeless...whatever it is...its that little Spark that will ignite the world to a HUGE FLAME of positive change that is very addicting and contagious!
Take that small step and do something that you never done before, every bit helps and join me in taking a step forward in a better world.
My Pledge this year:
I will help donate to the Angel Tree this Christmas.
I will help donate to a KIVA fund for loans that changes lives.
I am donating clothes to the Salvation Army.
I will continue to help spread awareness and positive energy in helping end poverty.
This may not seem like a lot or will be the deciding factor to end poverty...but will help contribute and help pave the way for the future....
Will you join me? If so comment away
Justin, you are so right about us complaining about so many different things, when others are so less fortunate that we are. Your post really puts things into perspective. I like to donate to poverty charities too, but I need to do more. Donations can also be in the form of time, and do not necessarily have to be monitary.
Thanks again.
