Decisions Make All the Difference

With autumn and the start of school, there is fresh energy in the air. During the summer, the focus can be on vacation, enjoyment and celebration. But the crisp days of fall bring a sense of new beginnings, of renewed focus, and getting back to work. Vacations are over, the days are cooler, and we are ready to get things done!

The question is, "Will the future really be different than the past?"

We know that some people set and achieve goals, year after year. They decide to start a business, learn to fly, build a home, move to Europe or go back to school, and they DO IT! Time after time, they set goals, then go out and achieve them.

For other people, however, life stays pretty much the same. For many people, dramatic change and improvement seems out of reach, a dream or fantasy they can't quite make happen. They work hard, are busy all the time, but things don't seem to work out the way they hoped.

I suppose we all have an area of life like that. We have some item we would like to change, but we don't concentrate long enough or hard enough to actually take care of it. In the small things of life, that might be acceptable, but when it comes to the big things, when it comes to our major goals and passions, that is NOT acceptable!

The good news is that life can change, and we can change it!

There are "tools" that highly successful people use to take control of their lives and achieve goals that are important to them. If I have one huge, consuming passion for TIPS, it is that it be a source of practical, POWERFUL tools for creating the life you want and accomplishing the goals you choose for yourself. Words and encouragement are nice, but tools are much better!

I would like this coming winter, and 2007, to be a time of transformation and achievement for everyone who wants that. One thing we have seen in recent weeks is that our world is ready for a new way of living, an easier, gentler, more effective and more satisfying way of being. I want TIPS to be a voice helping to move us in that direction.

This week, to achieve more, try slowing down. Do less and enjoy it more. Listen to your loved ones, hug a friend, think about how you would like to live in the future, and then...do just one thing different. Highly successful people are gentle with themselves, and we can learn from that. Don't set big, nice-sounding goals that scare you to death! Why do that to yourself?

Instead, decide to do just one thing different. Decide to do just one thing that takes you in the direction you want to go, and then do it! Take a walk, use the stairs, or skip desert and perhaps you'll be a bit healthier. Make one extra call or send a letter - perhaps you'll make that extra sale. Read or meditate or take a nap and perhaps your blood pressure will go down, just a little. This week, do one thing different.

There is more to "living well", and we'll explore other tools in the weeks ahead, but the first two tools are simply this: Decide to make life better, and then, do one thing different to move in that direction. Have a wonderFULL week!
