Thanks Rich Jacobson - You Inspired my BLOG BURNOUT (And business has picked up)!

Education & Training with Sell with Soul

I'm an ego-maniac, I can admit. Always have been. I wanna be the best, the highest, the most. If there's a scoreboard somewhere, my goal is to see my name at the top of it for everyone to admire... or even be a bit jealous of. Sorry, but that's the truth. (There's something liberating about hitting 40 that gives you the freedom to unashamedly be yourself!).

So, when I broke into the Top 20 of AR's most subscribed bloggers, I took it very seriously. I watched my name climb up the ranks until I hit #12. SO CLOSE to the top ten!!! Being in that Top Ten became a bit of an obsession for me. I blogged every single day (occasionally resting on Sunday). Writing, posting and decorating my blogs, then thoughtfully responding to comments took up several hours each morning, and throughout the day. When I posted a particularly juicy blog, I could hardly pull myself away from the computer watchingburnout the comments roll in.

Then... I slipped from #12 to #13. THUD. All that work and effort gone to waste! How DARE Rich Jacobson thwart my goal of hitting the Top Ten!!!

But, turns out it was a blessing in disguise. I lost my blogging momentum and Stepped     Away      From     the Computer. And... got back to work selling real estate.

I've barely blogged for two weeks. I just don't feel like it. I don't have all that much to say and frankly, I don't have the time. Instead of sitting unshowered at my keyboard all morning with a cup of coffee, I'm dressed and out the door by 9am. I'm putting and keeping sales together. I'm doing speaking engagements. I'm SOI'ing. I'm WORKING!

So, while I'm sure my blogging habit will return someday, for now, I'm happy just reading y'all's. However, I do need to keep an eye on Jeff Belonger who is right on my tail at #14...

This is like your "AH" moment I believe! I am glad you are back and it is always, always helpful to step away from something for a while and reflect and figure out what is important. If what you stepped away from as important enough, you will return to it. Welcome back!

I have to agree that I some time think some of us or focused on bloging and not real estate, it was real estate the built active rain not active rain that built real estate.

I have cut way back lately.  Business is good and Active Rain has been a contributor to that.

Jennifer,

Good timing on the featured post. The point system and ranking serves it's purpose well.

Jennifer- I think you and Jason and I are all obsessed with the top blogger list! I did the same thing you did:) I like my name up in lights too. I know Jason does. I think it is a writer thing:) Since now I am #4, I don't think I can get any higher, #3 is Brad Carroll, #2 is Brad Andersohn and #1 is the Official Active Rain blog. I doubt I will ever cross those lines! But it was fun getting to the top, now I will have to be on the look out for you and Jason:) Katerina

I absolutely abhor blogging for the concept of getting points but that's exactly what I find myself doing sometimes.  AFter reading your post yesterday, a light went off---I'm trying to restrain myself a bit.

Diane - Let me just clarify - I DON'T blog for points - there's no way I'll catch the top dogs in Colorado or even in Denver! I'm destined for #3 here. So, when I say that I blog out of ego, it's for subscribers, not points... But anyway, "point" taken!!!

Morning Jennifer,

Welcome back. I just know you are all refreshed and ready to go!!!!!!

There is noting wrong with wanting to be the best and striving to attain the goal. After all, who would willingly, knowingly, settle for less then their full potential?

Jennifer, You are #1 on my list!  I always check in on your blogs..

I hear you.. I got a bit obsessed with the blogging thing, especially during my job transition.  I like to think of it as Active Rain Therapy that got me through that period.

But there comes a time where we have to get out there and work!!!

I like how you motivated yourself to blog.  I do the same thing in other parts of my life.  For me motivation is the key to everything.  It helps me in work and personal relationships.  I want to be a great real estate agent, I want to be a great husband and Dad.  Every day I get up and look for something that will motivate me that day.....hey I think I got a blog here.

Thanks again.

Jennifer, I don't worry about that top 100 list, I doubt most folks aren't even aware of it. I did nothing to get there so I just don't stress over things I have no control over. It is a good place for newbies to look to read good content.

OMG - you're 40.  I wouldn't have expected a blog post like this coming from you for at least another 4 years.  I'm hoping to get the chance to read how liberated you are at 50.

Hi Jennifer,

You may want to add that having a great blog can be a burnout with all of the responses you have to reply to. I am actually sorry to add to your stress by adding another response, but you know what? You have actually helped all of us with our points by writing it, so, a very big thank you to you! And congratulations on still being less than half way to 100 :-)
