What about sleeze?  Do you really have to wear Victoria Secrets as a female to sell Real Estate?

Do you really think you have to wear Victoria Secrets teddies to deal with a man?

If you area over 40...do you think you have to wear that stuff under your suit...with a little skin to facilitate a deal?

Is the SEX SELLS... issue even reality?

I think not, I think this just puts female agents into a position which is really unsafe.

Have you ever had someone call you from a sign and ask you to show property, only to show up with a camera and want to take pictures of the real estate...which includes you? Wouldn't that make you wary?

I dress for success, and I know all don't agree, but I dress in business suits, nothing out of Victoria Secrets when I am dealing with buyers or otherwise.

I command respect, from the onset.

Many other agents that I have met seem to think they need to show flesh and that it will help a deal.

I like to work with professionals...not someone who thinks flesh sells...

If SEX, SLEEZE, VICTORIA SECRETS, NAUGHY CLOTHING HAS HELPED YOU SELL...PLEASE TELL ME HOW AND WHY...

What do you think? better yet, why and how did it help you?

AND GUYS...WHAT DO YOU THINK...WOULD YOU RATHER WORK WITH A PROFESSIONALLY DRESSED FEMALE AGENT OR ONE IN A SUIT...(now forget the initial thought and go with a real deal situation...,thanks)

I don't really think it matters what a woman is wearing, its the attitude that makes it work. However, I definitely think decorum should prevail in the professional world, for both men and women, and that lingerie is appropriate when its under the suit;p

My first thought when I read this was Gross!  I would never wear something revealing for work.  I think that is in the poorest taste.  I have seen it and I think it's a disgrace.  Personally, I wouldn't work with an agent that dressed like that.  It's not professional.  What are they selling anyway?  I also think it's disrespectful to your clients.  I want my clients to respect me in the morning. :)

Professionalism sells, and that includes both knowledge and appearance.  Having built and sold hundreds of homes during my career, I can assure you that I appreciated those agents who were knowledgeable and whose appearance was that of a professional.  I've seen all types, and my experience was that those who may have dressed for sex turned off both me and many of my customers.

I like this post....I had an issue with one blog that said real women dont wear pink...I think that you essentially have to "sell" your personality & yourself and how can you do that and be professional looking "sleezy"?  I myself feel, (MY OPINION) that if you want to wear pink, green, or purple with yellow polka dots, if that is what gives you the self confidence, that will shine through no matter what, but if you have something distracting so to speak, I feel that that will come off first other than your professionalism.  Yes unfortunately sex sells, but I say you can still feel sexy and LOOK professional!

Jen,

Absolutely, I do feel the same as you...

Imagine one morning, I had an appointment to view property at 11am, the agent didn't show up.  I called her, she lived 3 houses away. Showed up, hung over, and in her PJ's...told us she had a rough nite...

ARE YOU TOTALLY KIDDING ME????  AND I scheduled this appointment with her two day's ahead of time...and it was for a purchase for an undercover agent...

Needless to say, I found him a home in another community...UGH!

Karen - a few years ago I worked with an agent that was convinced that spandex skirts (3 sizes too small!) and sheer stretchy tops with contrasting undergarments was the "wardrobe du jour" and that she looked good in it.

First off - she looked like  ****** in it.  And sleezy would have been a kind description.

Secondly - She gave the rest of us a bad name.

Act professional, be professional and you'll be treated as a professional.  There's a time and a place for "party wear" and it's not in the office.

Exactly,"Act professional, be professional and you'll be treated as a professional.  There's a time and a place for "party wear" and it's not in the office."

I totally agree with you!

Ken,

Yes, it's exactly what I said, It's an undercover police agent who didn't want to deal with the other Real Estate agent.

Sharon,

As there were other posts here about "SEX SELL'S", I find it offensive...your post is quite well written and taken as such!

Marie,

Totally the point of this post. However,,, trash doesn't sell. Professionalism does..and that's just the way I feel.

Hi Karen.  Interesting topic.  I guess every type of agent has the customers they appeal to.  I would imagine many single guys would be into the "hot/sexy agent".  But those guys probably aren't really looking to buy a house.  They have other things in mind...

Thanks for writing and stopping by my blog.

Ken

Ken,

You are welcome.

My feeling is, that agent's who dress sleezy better be careful, b/c I feel that many agents who dress like this are living dangerously.

Many men look for company and drive around looking at real estate signs...It's better to be safe than sorry...in my book!

Karen, Some realtors have the glamour shot photo of themselves wearing what appears to be a cocktail dress or less on their website and business card.  It does not present a good image.
