My Hubby is Stepping Out....For Diabetes, That Is!

RobertSome of you have heard me mention my husband, Robert, from time to time. Considering we've been married for over 28 years, I'm pretty sure that I'll keep him for a little while longer.

He's a wonderful man and the coolest dad on the block. He's funny, irreverent, a hard worker and a kicking bass player in his band. He's adventurous, he loves to travel and lives to play and enjoy music.

What a lot of people don't know is that he is also a diabetic. And he's not alone.

Over 20 million Americans, both children and adults, suffer from diabetes and another 54 million are pre-diabetic and fighting against crossing that line. My grandmother was diabetic, as was my mother. I've witnessed first hand the toll that it takes on people, especially those that are working so hard to control it every day. Finding a cure requires education and research. Education and research require funding.

So, as part of the Step Out to Fight Diabetes walk being held November 8, 2008 in Audubon Park, Robert is asking for help in raising funds to support the American Diabetes Association. step out

Every donation, no matter how small, helps to reach the goal of eradicating this disease. Won't you take a moment to help? I want to see him keep rocking for many years to come...

People are needlessly dying every day.  Others suffer with a disease that could be reversed.  Many diseases can be prevented and reversed.  You will not hear this from the medical industry...they would go broke if they told you these things.  The details are in the blog.  Once you have read it, feel free to contact me!

Your hubby sounds awesome :-)  My closest girlfriends little nephew was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 4.  It was heartbreaking.  He and his family are participating in the "walk" and are trying to raise $20,000.  They're getting close!

God Bless all of you who are doing something that can make a difference in the lives of so many people.

Gregory, thanks for the information - I'll check it out and send the links to hubby as well.

C, is he really?  Mine was diagnosed last year, so this year he decided to not only do something about it (diet changes, etc) but to participate to help others as well.

Rebecca, he IS a rockin' guy :)  If I know him, he'll reach his goal before anyone else on the team.

Kris, $20k?  Wow, that's an ambitious goal - I sincerely hope they reach it - wish them luck from the Heindels.

Lisa, What a wonderful cause and I'm sorry to hear that your husband has diabetes.  Both my grandparents on both sides had it and it was at times very trying for them.  I also hope they find a cure!

Hi Lisa,

I too have a husband with Diabetes, and he is wonderful too. We have been married for 25 years and I want him to be around for a while. Thank you to your husband and you for helping the cause.
I wish him all the best! He looks like he is a go getter, so I am sure he will raise the money!!

Bill, thanks - he's a cool guy :)  We are very fortunate that right now he is controlling it through medication, but there are millions that aren't that lucky.

Carole, thank you!

Twin!  THANK YOU!  Robert says "that's very cool".  Does this mean we can talk longer next time? :)

Robin, so you know how it is.  I grew up with diabetes in my family, but it really hit home for him when he was diagnosed.  Talk about a spur to action!  Wish your husband well from both of us.

It was great talking to you. I could have kept talking forever. Let's do it again soon. GBU!

Lisa, it is true, I am. It took me a while to come to terms with it. C still has issues and has yet to give me an I-shot (LOL). Kudos and congrats to your hubby. Regards, M.

M, fortunately my hubby doesn't need shots because I would be in the same boat with C - couldn't do it.  Take care of yourself and know that he is walking for YOU too!
