Iowa Winters in April by Lucky Lang

A nice little reminder of Iowa Winters!  Last week the weather was in the 70's and people were doing yard-work!

Today, we wake up to snow.  It's not a lot of snow.  In fact it isn't even a nuisance snow (that's when you just shoveled yesterday and you get just even snow the next day that you have to shovel again or it will pack down and become ice on your drive.....and you don't want ICE).

It's actually quite beautiful against the landscaping.  The contrast makes a great picture.

But it's April, you say?  It's after Easter!  It's not suppose to snow this late?

Well, in 1995, on this very same day, April 12th, we got snow.  8 inches of it!!!

How would I remember 12 years ago to the day?  It's my daughter's birthday!

Sounds a lot like Colorado. I can sympathize.

Leon,

One of the sayings here is, "If you don't like the weather....wait until tomorrow!"

Don't I have a beautiful daughter?  She's smart, too!  (Takes after her mom)

Thanks for commenting.

Yea, this snow was actually worse then what you posted dad. I had to drive 2 hours south of Davenport on US-61S and I hit black ice and just about went into a ditch. I fish tailed a few times and somehow rode out the nasty ice patches until i could slow down. We saw around 20 cars in the ditches from blue grass to muscatine. I stopped in muscatine and called my boss and told him I wasn't driving any further, there's no need to risk a co-workers life along with my own just for a photo shoot! Also on the news I heard that 6 people died last night in car accidents =(

As the snow looked nice for the short time it was here, it sure did cause a LOT of problems on the roads!

Lucky: We too, in your lake-infested neighbor to the north, have had a two-day winter-wonderland! It's mostly gone now as temps have moderated. This shot was taken on Tuesday morning in the Cherokee Heights neighborhood of St. Paul.

Lucky II,

I heard about all this on this news after I posted this.  The temperature actually dropped this morning causing this mess.  Glad you're okay.

Jay,

Nice picture!  Don't you just love it?

Well hey I'm a Realtor in Arizona and it is a chilly 78 today. If you or your friends ever get sick of the white stuff give me a call. We have lots and lots of homes to choose from.

Jeff,

Thanks for the offer but I actually love the climate changes.  It would be boring if it never snowed, never got cold, never killed off the bugs, never froze the Mississippi River over with ice, never had the beautiful color changes of the leaves on the trees, etc.

Gena,

Thanks!  You are so sweet!  My daughter lives in the LA area so you're closer to her than I am.

And I am LUCKY!  (Not because she lives there, I'm just LUCKY)

I think we can probably put away the snow shovel now until winter.  We sure had more than our fair share of snow and ice that past winter.

Rob,

I think I got too much sun yesterday.  It was absolutely beautiful and time got away from me.

I went to church and Bible study, did an electrical inspection, a 12-5 Parade of Homes on a beautiful $259,950 home in Baldwin, a showing of a mobile home on 6.8 acres with a pond that the guy wants to live in while they build their new home on the land, had a hymn sing in the evening, and removed all my marketing materials from a home that is set to close soon so I didn't get too much time outside.
