While performing my morning ActiveRain ritual, I came across Kristina Pratt's Book of the Month post.

She has started a new group that will review the most popular books in our industry.

This month will be dedicated to Gary Keller's Shift. "It's Not About The Market...It's About What You Do!"

While reading another Kristina post, I was reminded of something I've heard in a previous class.

Kristina stated that she is "trying really hard not to flip forward too far into the book....[She] wait to get into the section about online prospecting and lead generation."

My response would be..........Kristina......FLIP FORWARD!

Real Estate Books Aren't Novels...................They're Operation Manuals!

If you need some advice, inspiration or instruction, go to the pages in the book that will meet your need. These books aren't murder mysteries.............they are resources. Use them properly!

Speaking of which..........I would encourage Shift owners to read the following Tactics first.....

#4 - Find the Motivated - Lead Generation (That was for you Kristina!)

#5 - Get to the Table - Lead Conversion

#7 - Price Ahead of the Market - Seller Pricing Strategies

#9 - Create Urgency - Overcoming Buyer Reluctance

#12 - Bulletproof the Transaction - Issues and Solutions

Remember..............Real Estate Books Aren't Novels...........They're Operation Manuals!

Kristina! I give you permission to FLIP FORWARD!

David ~ I've started reading "The Shift", and I absolutely LOVE it! It's an easy read, and in the market that many of us are facing, in my opinion, it's a MUST READ!

I've read Gary's MREA and MREI (Millionaire Real Estate Agent and Millionaire Real Estate Investor) and can truly say that both are as important a read as any for people in our industry.

Gary Keller has been described as a visionary and Joe Williams is the most accessible CEO I've ever met.

David- I have yet to read The Shift. I am going to see about purchasing a copy of it today. I keep hearing how good it is. Also thanks for plugging the book group. I have joined and I am looking forward to seeing what books are reviewed.

Best,

Dave Jenks, one of the authors of The Shift, was in Denver today for an all day Keller Williams Shift Seminar.  I was out of town but kept in touch with the agents in our office and they thought it was great.  They also highly recommended the book.  I'm getting my copy tomorrow.

This is such a great book.  One of my recent posts was inspired by Chapter 9.

As far as flipping forward - it's all good!   So you find yourself flipping forward, then backward.  You can get dizzy.  LOL  I have those little stick-on tabs that you can label - this way you can keep track of your favorite parts.  I also have mine (as well as MREA) spiral bound (at Kinkos)

We are honored to have David Jenks visit our office on a fairly regular basis.  He is awesome.

I'm so jealous of all you lucky KW agents... :)

I tend not to flip foward, just because it's my natural way of learning/reading. I've read some RE books where if you flip too far ahead you're completely lost.  I'll flip forward if you say so, David.  ;)

No KW franchise in my market, Sue.  :(  Unfortunately.  So I have to live vicariously through The Millionaire Real Estate Agent and Shift...

BTW... thanks for the phone call David.  That was nice of you.  Been busy and now on vacation, so I meant to tell you sooner.

That shouldn't stop you. There was no KW office in my market area either when I moved here and we opened in 2004 and now have about 130 agents  and we're growing while every other company around us is losing agents.  If you find a few likeminded people to start it with, it will definitely take off. Its actually a huge opportunity for you. Anyway, sorry for my 2 cents. I can just tell that you would thrive at KW.

Sue, I whole-heartily agree with you.  If I had the financial means to start a KW franchise I would jump at the chance. I have a lot of respect for a national franchise that invests so much in their agents.  My Grandfather owned a brokerage when I was younger, and he never forgot where his bread was buttered - his agents.  He treated them with the utmost respect and took their career development very seriously.  I always admired that about him, and hope one day to do the same.  Hopefully in the future I will end up at KW, either on my own or joining an existing broker.

Thanks for the recommended chapters in the book.  I like how you say these types of books are operation manuals, you come back to them often unlike other books.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I'll take a look at it.  But then I love to read and love to learn, too.  Happy New Year.
