The Albert Atlanta

For most Atlantans, Inman Park is a beautiful neighborhood that recalls an Atlanta of yesteryear, a place where people exited carriages by stepping on carriage blocks and sipped mint juleps on wide, ornamented front porches. Yet, Inman Park has not always been the graceful neighborhood of restored Victorian homes we see today. This area, like many parts of Atlanta, has had a checkered past. Christine V. Marr and Sharon Foster Jones investigate this interesting history in Inman Park, a vibrant pictoral history of Atlanta's first planned neighborhood. Developed by Joel Hurt, who also designed the Druid Hills neighborhood, Inman Park was once the address for the most prominent families in Atlanta. Using pictures and ephemera from 19th century publications and Inman Park residents' personal collections, Marr and Jones have created a powerful, insightful history about one of Atlanta's beloved neighborhoods.
