Seattle Kitchen Remodel Before and After's

By
Home Stager with California Moods Inc

If you are like me, I just love before and after pictures so I am going to share a work in progress with you from my own personal library even though the project is not complete. The kitchen was painted the day before I left Seattle so it is not accessorized although the pantries and cabinets are lined and organized. The kitchen was very small...no room for an island at all.

Before...

I knocked out the wall separating the kitchen from the dining room and the opposite wall holding the refrigerator and upper cabinets...making the kitchen now 27 feet long. It was still very narrow so the challenge was to get enough work space and counter tops without using an island. I marked off the floors to visualize each space. That tape was left there for a almost a year before construction began.

Below is my solution with 2 complete work stations and 3 working surfaces. The left if the chef's station and the right is the serving and clean up station with a shared island between. The dining room is to the right of the serving island and the door to the outdoor barbeque area is to the left.  The opposite wall facing the kitchen houses the pantries and refrigerator. All in all...the remodel of the kitchen stayed true to the original design.

This shot is taken from the dining room area and the barstools sit where the wall was before.

I hesitate in showing these photos because there are going to be several professional photo shoots taken in the next few weeks but I wanted to let you what I have been up to. More to come on the rest of the house.

If anyone in the Seattle area would like to contact me regarding any upcoming design and decorating needs, I would love to hear from you.

Hi Sheron, congratulations on your new position of VP of RESA.  Been busy?  I have and it's not over yet.  Love the look of this renovation.  I posted some pictures of the kitchen redesign and staged a vacant property, trying to buy a couple of modest homes in the town my kid's live in to flip, my son got his first little home and I mean 'little'.  Summer is flying by.  See you in the rain, you're one of my heros, don't you know?  Always inspiring.

Thanks to both Sheron and Christine on their input on concrete counters. At the IDS(internation design show) in Toronto, I spoke with a rep. Love the look of them...I think they would look fabulous in this loft space that I'm working on.

The kitchen is finished and I love the before and after comparisons. (Dining room furniture has not been delivered yet but it is contemporary with stainless steel dining chairs with leather seats and a rectangle teak table.

I had nothing to do with the dog dishes...honest. It is much too contrived and 'staged' don't you think? :)

I really like the copper in the counter tops - am doing a design for clients building their own home and we are going with copper range hood in great room, hammered copper sink in bathroom off kitchen, Venetian bronze fixtures and some copper nail head trim on the stairs, add to that lots of stone work.

Yours is very cool.

My husband does copper fabrications , tin ceilings,  etc as part of our roofing business.

Sounds absolutely delicious. I have a lot of copper myself but never enough. I wonder how much copper would be enough? You are very lucky to have such a talented husband too. And you know what I am going to say now don't you...pictures???

Sheron, how did I miss this back in April. WOW what a transformation!  I did you manage to do this long distance?  Seattle has such great style, wish that we had more here in our area...especially rental furniture.  My trip/experience with MOR was much less than I'd hoped for, a big disappointment, but maybe I just didn't get to the right person.

When are we doing lunch?  I'm ready!

Ginger - I want to design more kitchens so be on the lookout for me :) We can meet at Mor and then head to the Elbow Room...next week the weather will be cooler...in the 80's so how does that sound?

OK now lilly-pilly is just a little silly!

Thank you Diane. I loved designing it. There were a few unavoidable changes but none the less it was a fun challenge. I understand that the architect on the remodel has borrowed my (3 island) kitchen design for other projects. This space has 2 full professional working stations. Great for a team who likes to cook together.

Larry - it is concrete...not sure I would call it a pit...but then again it could be considered a pit...hmmm.

I like the concrete, but I had a builder tell me they are really heavy and porous.  What experience have you had with them?

Cindy - Concrete allows you to be completely creative, the sealer needs to be applied to the surface about every 6 months and it is so worth it, and the resins they add now make it so much more interesting and lighter. This counter has colored glass tossed into it and then copper strips laid in here and there. Very fun, very current, very timeless.
