I think as long as we have our needs met..(Not wants, but needs) Love is more valuable than money.

This is pretty interesting.  I played around with the link you attached and found out that the magic number to be in the top 1% of the world's highest income earners is only $48,000.  I was shocked to find that number to be so low.

It is all about who you compare yourself to - if I lived in an area of the world where $2 per day was the standard to live a relatively comfortable life, then I wouldn't have an issue with it.  Millions of people live on less than $2 a day and I can't imagine that they are all miserable.  There is so much in the world that is free - a smile, a hug, just talking, going for a walk, music and dancing, plenty of games - who really needs all that much money when the best things in life are free?

I don't think that money necessarily buys happiness - a sense of pride and accomplishment-yes, possessions - certainly, but happiness - no, that needs to come from within .  But there are many so called 'rich' people who aren't happy.  Attitude is everything and if you are a low income earner yet can manage to have a happy and fulfilling life then you can be overall 'richer' in the grand scheme of things.

Speaking of money and happiness - are we still thinking about Dubai??

I am glad I saw this post - I wonder if it is possible to live on $2 a day or even $50 a day in the US.  Any thoughts

I wonder if this is why a lot of the world Hates the US... We are Rich!  Sort-of like the IRS, they think you are rich when you certainly dont feel rich!

I don't think money makes you happy, but I think that you have to compare apples to apples.

Here, with the cost of living, there is no way anyone can live on $2 per day, every day, so yes, more money, definitely could make people happier (especially those working for minimum wage).

Happiness is also relative.  For some people, being happy means putting food on the table, to feed the children.  That's all I thought about, as a single parent, making very little money.  I just wanted enough money to feed my son, and pay the rent.

So, if we compare what we have, to those people making $2 per day, we are definitely rich beyond belief.

If we compare ourselves to those in our neck of the woods, especially the CEOs from those large companies, then we are quite poor, aren't we?

If I had no money, and couldn't feed my child, and possibly could end up homeless, would money make me happy?  Yes.

If I have everything I need (not want ... need), will money make me happy?  No.
