How long have you owned a computer?

How long have YOU been on the Internet?

I was commenting on posts this morning and ran across one by Tammy Lankford. She had been online for ten years! That's exactly how long I have too!

Many of my readers don't know that I am also a self taught professional artist. My start was designing PTA covers in grade school.

I wanted an online gallery to display my new "Faces Collection" paintings.

It would be the place I could send prospective gallery owners that wanted to take a look at what I could create.

I wasn't really interested in selling straight from the website just a virtual gallery.

The new computer was from Comp USA and a friend that worked there helped me put it all together.

"Free" Net Zero was my dial up provider. Then we loaded on Frontpage to get started on the website.

Together, we designed the first website. I taught myself many new programs too. I was totally addicted to my new toy.

Now 10 years and a few upgraded websites later it's time to design a new art website. Also time to design a new collection.

I'm not sure I have as much time to put it all together, so I might have to hire a teenage geek to get it done properly.

Maybe I'll advertise on Craigslist for someone. They could build it much faster than I could. There are so many new ideas that I haven't seen yet that they might know about.

OMG, Lizette! I visited your site and your paintings are STUNNING! Absolutely beautiful! I remember my first computer too - funny thing is that my 8 year old could probably do a better job now than me at putting one together and teaching ME to use it!

Hi LIzette. I do remember my first computer. My mom bought it for me for school & it was very antiquated (now) but with the times back then. I got on AOL when they had limited times for the internet. funny. I love your paintings, I just checked out www.lizette.com

Well, my first computer didnt have a mouse. I dont remember what year that was but it was maybe 91 or 92, and I was in the Army and it was my work computer.

My first person computer at home was awesome, and the internet too! I used to stay up all night chatting, and then when the alarm went off I would go to P.T. without any sleep. I dont do that anymore!

Kristin - Didn't we think dial up was fast! LOL I didn't ever join AOL...I thought I was a rebel. Thanks for checking out my art.

Ed - I did some chatting when i first got mine too. I stopped pretty fast after I realized there were some creepy people in the chat rooms.

I started working on a commodore 64 and learned how to program in basic when I was about 9 or so.

Ahhh, so we have met! LOL

J/K.....(maybe).... you are right there were lots of creepy people and definitly no future in it!

There was no such thing as a PC when I went to college.....(I road to college on my dinosaur). We used punch cards on a "computer" that was as large as a side by side refrigerator.....I started real estate in 16% interest rates and there was no such thing as a pc, laptop, internet, cell phone, etc. I am not sure we even had fax as of yet......

Lizette, I remember the first computer I owned was a Tandy from Radio Shack and that was 1989! The Internet wasn't here yet!

My first Pc was a 386 . I guess we have been on line for about 8 years. Hard to believe. Congrats to you and a great site

I remember my first computer that I personally owned. I was a sophomore in college back in 1995. I was in a computer class and it was just easier to have my own instead of scheduling around lab time. THat's when I learned how to get on the internet through "Telnet", before Netscape and Yahoo and Google search engines... Fun fun fun! I can't believe that's been 13 years!

O Ah back in 1993 the first computer was a E-machine and I think the Internet service was Prodigy. Back then computer systems were simple, a monitor, tower, key board and mouse. Today Multi screens, towers, and keyless almost everything. Wow how time flies. Love your painting.

I had a radio shack tandy with the GREEN screen in 1984. It had big whopping 8" floppy discs. I had totally forgot about that machine. If I try real hard I can remember the headaches that stupid green screen gave me.

I love Liberty Girl. All of them are beautiful, but that was my favorite.

I am not sure how long ago it was I got my first 'puter. All I know is you had to boot it up with a floppy disc and I thought it was a wonderful machine.

Lizette, there's you in your shades :) On the computer - for me a few more than 10 years ago but #1 was a hand-me-down 'cause I didn't need a computer (my how things change) Comp USA was the first place purchased from though. again how things change!

Lizette--We got our first computer as a wedding present from my mother-in-law. She was upgrading for her business. It will be 18 years this next March. We used mostly for resumes and didn't go online. We had lots of kids educational games. My son learned to read at 2 with a software that showed and spoke a word went he hit any key. We went online for the first time just prior to moving up north in 1998....10 years ago this October.

An ARTIST? I had no idea....Some of your work is very Picasso-like! You are a jack...I mean Jill of all trades! :)

Lizette, we got our first computer for the kids and my husband & I in 1990, a Tandy from Radio Shack with one 5 1/2 inch disk drive--- no hard drive, etc. The Internet wasn't around, but there was some kind of message board type thing using the dial up modem. Yep, it was a monochrome screen, no mouse.

I even taught kindergarteners some computer skills on very slow computers in 1991. At least they learned keyboarding.

That really wasn't that long ago and what progress!

Hey bay-bay save some money and aggravation by doing it yourself through GoDaddy.com. They have something called website tonight which is a user friendly interface you can drag and drop WYSIWYG stuff. For a few bucks more you can add a paypal shoppong cart. :-)

My first one was, basically, nothing more than a typewriter that I could move things around on. No clue that it would end up more like a TV set.

I am there with you, a little over 10 years. Still typing along, but behind the teenagers and kids I know, for sure. Gotta love it!

Liz - very interesting paintings, I like Golden Animal Girl the best. I detech maybe a bit of Van Gogh/Picasso influence.

My first computer was one that I built and designed for myself out of discrete components and surplus circuit cards from the military. I have been using the internet since the late 70's (when it was still Arpanet), got on AOL in 93 and was one of the very first to buy and sell on Ebay.

Love the colors in the your painting very vibrant! I do remember my first computer back in 95 hated the thing, just because it was something new and I had to figure it out for myself!! But I have to say I love them now.

I had a 286 Computer that came with a 40 Mb (yes, Mb) hard drive and 256 k of RAM. It cost me almost $2000.00 for this state-of-the-art equipment that could play games as high tech as Scrabble, Tic-Tac-Toe, and Hearts.

The "INTERNET" was mostly just dial-up chat boards, and there were no real graphics to speak of. It's amazing how far we have come since 1990.

hi Lizette, great website/paintings, we should organize an AR art exhibit, so much talent floating around here.

My first PC was an Apple II back in 1984, yes I was a geek before it was cool to be a geek. Got online in 1997 to trade tech stocks for 5 years (a notorious daytrader), got bored with that then I fooled around with paint and in 2002 did the art thing full time, best decision I ever made!

Our first computer was an IBM with no hard drive, just 2 floppy disk drives. You put the program disk (we used Lotus, back then) in one drive and saved your work on a disk in the second drive.

Of course, it was really sleek, compared with the computers on which my husband learned to program. They were the size of buildings. You could always spot the engineering majors, because they were the ones always walking around with a deck of punch cards in their pocket.

If you know what I'm describing, you're definitely in the "older than dirt" crowd.

I got my first computer in 95 I think that was the Al invented the internet but I can't remember. It had the 8 inch floppies looked like CDs. I think it was even older than a comadore. I sure enjoyed it though.

My first computer was not a pc but a main frame. An IBM 370 which cost millions of dollars, its own air conditioned, raised floor room and a staff to keep it up an running. Of course this was back in 1974.

Wow Lizette I am super impressed with you! 1st of all I liked the cartoon picture of you. I want one for me. Then I visited your website and it's fantastic, your site and the work you've done. I do a paintings also. I just wanted to compliment you on all your hard work from real Estate to all your creations! Good for you!

My first computer was a 512 Mac. A single 400K disk slot. You had to switch disks all the time to keep working on something. I remember I once bought a 20MB external hard drive. That was in mid 80's I guess, and have been a Mac/Apple guy since.

I do own a few Dell laptops for work, but I really hate Windows.
