I'm going to visit White County Courthouse tomorrow for two reasons.

Our Courthouse is over 100 years old and is still a busy place. At 10:00 a.m. on lots of Mondays foreclosures are done. A person comes from Little Rock or somewhere to read that the house at 111 Address St. is up for auction. He reads the rules of the auction and places his own bid right there in the courthouse lobby. He usually says that 222 Mortgage Corp bids ____ amount and are there any other bids. Almost never are there other bids because his bid for the mortgage company includes what is owed including attorney fees.

The auctions are advertised but I've found that the easiest way to discover whether they are actually foreclosed is to be there. Sometimes they are paid off or postponed at the last minute. Two are up for auction tomorrow so I think I'll attend.

But the other reason I'm going to visit the courthouse is to vote early. I appreciate being able to vote early and I intend to vote early for the following reasons.

I care deeply about the results of this election and have my mind made up.
I could be ill on Nov. 4 and be unable to get to the polls.
I could be having to show property and find it inconvenient to get to the polls.
I could have to stand in line for hours to vote on Nov. 4.
It could be raining on Nov. 4 and I'd have to stand in line in the rain.
The voting mechanisms could have problems and I wouldn't get to vote.
I don't think this could ever happen but what if I FORGOT to vote on Nov. 4.

Ummmmm......wonder what would happen if I voted and then passed on before the election? Would they fish out that vote and declare it illegal?

Anyway, I hope to make it down there and say hello to the friendly folks at the courthouse tomorrow morning! As they say in the South, "I'm gonna kill two birds with one stone."

Does anyone else find it interesting that there are 3 Ford cars in this picture, the other looks like an Oldsmobile to me. Wonder if The Ford Motor Company paid to have the picture/postcard made? The two Fords on the left look like my Ford I got when I graduated from college: that would be 1959.

All good reasons for early voting, Barbara. Esp. the one about possibly kicking the bucket before getting to vote. Think I'll do that, too, just in case. Last time I voted the line was long but because my husband, who was with me (or I was with him) is handicapped, the officials took us to the front of the line.

Barbara, I commend you with your work on auctions and voting early. For a minute there I thought you were going to argue with a judge on a speeding ticket. That would have destroyed my image of you as the proper lady I have always thought of you. Then again I've long suspected you have a wild side too ; )

Anita, I made a lot of good points, didn't I. And the picture of the courthouse is great. There were not so many dealerships then so lots of people probably had the same type cars....even the same colors. Remember the Bill's Grill card where all the cars look the same? Jim Baugh, the authority, said there were only a few colors to choose from and that's why so many looked the same.

You lucky girl, getting a new car for graduation. I'm telling you.....you lived a charmed life!!

Those two Fords on the left are the very popular 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 2 door sedans. If Anita had that car in 1959 it would be 2 or 3 years old.

I have that post card in unused mint condition. It was sent to me by my Uncle Doyle Graham in probably 1959. Here's what the back looks like.

Steven, I also wasn't going to the courthouse to file divorce papers as Nutsy suggested I do. LOL

Don, thanks for the "other side of the picture." I don't know my cars well enough to say which is what. I remember thinking the pink and black ford? was the prettiest thing I've ever seen back in the 50's. It may have been a chevy but the color was revolutionary!

O.K. I stand corrected by DonDon. My car, bought and made in 1959, was a Ford Skyliner. It was a hard-top convertible - the entire top folded back into the trunk. Ford only made those cars for 3 years: 57,58 and 59. My husband tells me that the person responsible for Ford no longer making this car was Robert McNamara, Sec. of Defense in the Kennedy Administration.....he was formerly an exec. with the Ford Motor Company. He said it was a "gimmick'

I loved that car and it was used in many parades in Searcy: the queen or whoever sitting up on the top of the back seat. I felt like a jr. queen driving it in the parades. I also had the car you mentioned, Barbara: it was a gray and pink Chevrolet. Not my choice of color but I needed a car and that was the one we could afford. Of course after it became MY car, I thought it was beautiful.

Ahh the old Searcy courthouse. One of my favorite buildings in White Co. I remember being a kid cruising around court square and thinking how cool that was. That is such a beautiful building. Searcy is lucky to have such a place and I hope that it isn't going anywhere soon. Thanks for posting.

Josh and Kathy, you may have been in the cruisin' teenager group that got so big and bad, they had to do a curfew. It's been several years since kids cruised up and down and around the square. Now they probably couldn't afford the gas anyhow! LOL Thanks for comment.

Anita, you are the supreme Southern Belle. You have had so many beautiful things that it takes two or three to remember all of them. I would have sold my soul for any of those cars that you had!! Shoot, I felt honored just to be able to ride in one! We need a picture of you in the parade driving that fancy convertible!!
