I have no idea how many years this has been going on, but I've only been going for the last seven or eight. And it's one of my favorite events that I look forward to every year.
It's Whale of a Sale, hosted by the Junior League of Charleston. This is a HUGE yard sale of sorts. You 
can pick up deals on all sorts of things, from electronics, furniture, clothing, appliances, artwork, kids stuff, and just about anything else you can think of!
This year's event in this coming Saturday, October 25th, from 8am to about 1pm. This is the third year that it being held at the Gaillard Auditorium in downtown Charleston. A few years ago they held it at the Charleston Convention Center, which was a much larger space for them, but I think it became too expensive there, so they had to move. Regardless, it's an awesome event to attend.
The Junior League of Charleston is very active in the community and in making an impact on people's lives. Their website states:
Since 1923, the Junior League has served our community by developing collaborative programs with other community agencies and serving as a catalyst for positive change in areas ranging from education to child abuse to feeding the homeless. This year, the League will invest more than 15,000 hours in volunteer community service work and will invest more than $100,000 in the community through Community Assistance Grants and through support of its community projects.
