Bat The Columbus Dispatch has a list of most Central Ohio Communities - Central Ohio Halloween 2008

Trick or Treat is again on Halloween in Columbus this year.  For years “Beggars Night” or “Trick or Treat” was NOT on Halloween in many Central Ohio communities but was a day or so before depending on what day of the week the “holiday” fell on.  A few years back the city of Columbus moved Trick or Treat to Halloween.

Trick or Treat is not after dark... or maybe it is dark by 8:00 PM now...

The Columbus Dispatch article says "Columbus and most central Ohio communities have scheduled trick-or-treating for 6-8 p.m. on Halloween" exceptions in my part of Central Ohio include Dublin, Hilliard and New Albany.

Hi Maureen - I never did understand why so many towns moved Trick or Treat to some other night instead of Halloween night.  Maybe the towns in my area will be moving it back to its real night this year, too.  I'll have to check that out.

Ann the town I grew up in Beggars Night was the night before Halloweeen so it never seemed odd to me.  There is a great Columbus Dispath article from a couple of years ago about why Columbus moved it long, long ago... I thought I linked to it somewhere, on some blog but could not find it this morning.

I think I grew up thinking that October 30 was safer than October 31.  On Halloween grown up would be celebrating and driving so it was better for kids to be out the night before.

We used to go out after dark.  Even though I was scared of the dark I wanted Trick or Treat scheduled after dark!!!!

Maureen,

I agree, Halloween should be on the day that it falls on not some other day.  That takes all of the fun out of it.  I also like the idea of holding it between 6pm & 8pm too.

I agree that it is safer between 6 and 8 but I liked it dark!!!!    Of course it was safer back in the dark ages when I was a kid.

I went out , yes me, for trick or treat last year on halloween, seems like common sense, right? , and I was the only person wearing a costume and knocking on doors for candy

Maureen, what is this world coming to halloween, people have to be careful where they go, what and from whom they get Treats. It is unfortunate. A fun time is being changed.
