By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Nashville Best Real Estate LLC

When you make a choice for a Realtor ask him or her .

How long have they been in this business?

Why type of transaction came their way?

Real Estate is a very demanding Business only experience teaches us what to do.

No one is born a Realtor .

Are they very patient ?

Is a quality that is needed plus a lot of perseverence.

Just because a Realtor doesn't have a lot of real estate experience doesn't mean that they can't be an excellent Realtor for a client.  It depends on the Realtor's skills built in a previous industry, work ethic, ability to communicate, and drive for customer satisfaction.  There are many people that have been in the business for years that are still only mediocre.

Experience and knowledge play a big role in hiring a Realtor. Number of transactions may be an indicator but not always.  Listing Agent vs. Buyer's Agent is a qualifer but again experience on both sides is better in my opinion from what I have seen in the market.

Bottom line is all about relationships. How you build them, maintain them and finish them is what really counts for one to become a good Realtor.  Good news travels fast but bad news spreads like wild fire!

Everyone has to be new sometime. It's helpful to have an agent with a great work ethic, good attitude, aptitude for contracts etc. but there is no substitute for experience. A wonderful agent who's new will be MORE wonderful when more experienced. We all learn something on every transaction.

If you're new, pair up with someone knowledgeable for your first few transactions. That way you'll get that experience AND you will not be messing up on your clients. When you're new, you don't know what you don't know.

Yvette,

Welcome to AR...I agree that patience is a good quality for a Realtor to have. So is Drive and Passion. It's difficult to ask a Realtor if they have these qualities. In my opinion years as a Realtor are not the measure of a Good Agent, and apparently a lot of people feel the same way...See my post about why one would use a New Agent

You are correct in saying Not all Realtors are Equal and that applies to new as well as seasoned agents. A good agent will do his/her best for the client and that's what the client needs to find out about that agent.

(Although, I don't know anyone who would say they would not do their best, if asked:)

There is no business that does not need experience.Would you be a little scared if you had a surgery with

a young Doctor "you were his first case" unless the person with experience would be with him in case he

needed help. Is up to the Broker or Manager to help the new kid on the block. And make sure that things

are done well.
