It Was There All Along. I Just Didn’t See It. Believe In Greatness And It Will Appear To You.

Does this happen to you? You’re searching for something particular and you’re turning the house upside down to find it, but its nowhere in sight. As you blaze through your house like a tornado tearing through a neighborhood, you have convinced yourself that what you are looking for isn’t there. When in reality it was there all along. Don't See it

This happened to me yesterday. I searched all over the place for my vegetable peeler and I searched in all the obvious places: first the dishwasher, then the dish strainer, the drawer I usually keep my peeler in and finally a few unlikely places. It wasn’t there. And as I looked, I got more frustrated and out loud told Dave that I didn’t understand where on earth that stupid peeler could have gone, I had convinced myself it couldn’t be found. I believed that it wasn’t there.

And as I hemmed and hawed Dave walked up to me and handed me the peeler.
“Where was it?’’ I asked. “It was in the dishwasher,” Dave replied.
“It was in the dishwasher. I looked there twice. It wasn’t there.” I snapped back. And as Dave walked away shaking his head in disappointment he said, “You know, it wasn’t there because you had convinced yourself it wasn’t there. Hard to see what you don’t believe in, isn’t it.”

My Veggie Peeler

It stopped me dead in my tracks, especially after reading John Assarof’s book, The Answer, about how the brain can either make you more aware of the things that will bring you success or filter it out as if you don’t see it at all. Even though it was just a peeler, because I had convinced myself it didn’t exist – to my brain, it truly didn’t exist.

Sometimes even an experience like searching for an insignificant vegetable peeler is enough proof that if we don’t believe in ourselves, the successes we can achieve, then I guess we will miss every opportunity to get there, because we won’t even see it coming.

Believe you can be great, visualize how you want your life to be as if it’s happening right now, and maybe, just maybe you will start seeing opportunities you may have never thought possible before appear right before your eyes.

Funny, Jessica, and so true. I often have things like this happen.

Good comments. I remind myself that "Winners do the things losers don't like to do."

I am a big fan of "visualization". I try and start each day with a visualization exercise. I find it really helps me through out the day if something like what you described happens. Try and start you day with a simple exercise and build up to visualizing how you want your day to go. The more you practice, the more you will believe! The brain is so powerful.

Shirley - I think the great thing is that once you're aware that it's happening you can hopefully be pro active and shift your thinking.

Donna - You're so right - One of my affirmations is: "I have a great work ethic"

Lori - Yeah, I'm really getting into this two. I have a LofA partner and we boost eachother up. I actually wrote down my visualization that I focus on every night and try to do every morning too. I dream big. Thanks for the baby step tips, sometimes we all need that reminder that if we're stuck we just have to step back and do things one step at a time. My next addition is to record my affirmations digitally and listen to those before I visualize every night.

Jessica, what a great Point you make. I lived in Connecticut many years ago and I went to Boston and said I wish I could live and work here shortly after I was living in Boston. Then I kept visualizing the Pacific Ocean now I live less then 300yards from the Pacific Ocean. this really works. I do not know how, but it works.

A great reminder of what I already knew to be true. I think I need to get back in the habit of visualizing myself achieving the things I want. Thanks!

I wonder what people will think if I see things that aren't there? Oh, maybe that's a different post. :) When I doubt, I just ask God to show me where I put whatever I was looking for. Or if I need a fresh idea, I give it to God and he always shows me something new and fresh. Usually when I'm least expecting it. ~ Evelyn

The opposite seems to be true whenever you buy a new car or when you are even considering a big purchase. All of a sudden, you see them EVERYWHERE.

I have been learning that visualization and affirmations are far more important than I ever realized.

Jessica - Girl, you are on a roll and what ever you are doing when posting your blogs, don't stop. What a great blog and I am going to have to find a property in Humboldt County so I can come and see you again. Maybe some of your blogging power will rub off on me, they love your stuff. If I come to visit you I can bond with my Redwood trees that miss me so much.

Jessica, this is a very insightful post! Like the old saying goes, "the only sure fire way to lose is if you take yourself out of the game!"

Visualization has proven to work. It helps raise self esteem and confidence and it helps one guide their path to greatness. Visualization is mainly about rehearsal as we call it. Great read, I tend to do this with the TV remote, except it is usually my 2-year old hiding it from me. At least that is what I tell myself.

Jessica, I have seen this in my searches for my car when coming out of the grocery store. If I drive the blue one but search for my other car, the silver one, and have that filter in my eyes, I never find it. The obvious can go right by us sometimes. Congratulations on the Feature.

Endre - Now if that doesn't inspire me, I don't know what will. Wow, that's great. I think deep down inside I want to live in San Francisco near Golden Gate Park. That would be ideal. I need to add that into my visualization. Although I have to admit that I would be just as happy be able to travel down to San Fran when ever I feel like it - Still want the house and the lifestyle no matter what.

Bob and Carolin - It is so true. And what also helps to get there is to breathe deeply and/or meditate. It definitely helps you see more clearly so you can start seeing what you want to see.

Cat - Yep - I usually visualize before I go to bed, but I really think we need to do it before we even get out of bed in the morning to set a postive tone for the rest of our day. No more getting out of bed on the wrong side.

I definitely need that reminder - I'm a natural worrier - and when I worry it about whether the outcome I want will happen (example keeping a client on track to closing when they start veering off to the right) it definitely doesn't help me and once I get through it and everythings fine, I wonder why I expended all the uneccessary energy. So thanks for that reminder. I needed that.

Funny, I do the same quite often. Next time when I go out to door knock, I will keep telling myself that the cients are there at the next door.

Marian - Great! It's a fabulous book that looks at not only the Law of Attraction(spiritual side), but how to also do the practical side of building a successful business too. If you can't find it in the library most bookstores have it (like Borders etc.) and of course it's sold online too.

Missy - See it's true. If they're convinced it's not there, mom you'll be finding it for them every time. Hey I'm looking forward to a quick coffee meeting next week. Here's where the power of visualization comes in. I will meet you - and find a way to break away from the fam for 15-20 minutes to do so. It's going to happen.

Deborah - Gosh, thanks. Definitely check the book out. It really is by far the most fascinating and comprehensive book I have read on Law of Attraction so far. Not to say that I don't love Joe Vitale, but there's some extra great info in The Answer that you don't find in these other books.

Andrew - He's great isn't he. And the thing I love the most is that he became a successful Realtor, helped expand the Re/Max brand and office in Indiana, which catapulted him into a whole new level.

Ellie - Good idea. It really changes your attitude and focus. Great for expireds and dealing with all kinds of people. Love it!

This is different, but so true, try meditating everyday for one hour you will be amazed.

Jessica, I thoroughly enjoyed this post and have to laugh because earlier this week I ran back in my house and shouted "Where the &$#@* are my keys" all the while sahking them in my hand! yes...they laughed and so did I!

Brilliant! I could so see myself in this. Yesterday I looked everywhere for a particular earing and it showed up in plain sight in a place my husband and I had both looked. He's just positive I put it there, but it came from nowhere.

Russell - Oh Goodness! I laughed a little too loudly after reading your comment. I think I scared got some annoying looks from some of my real estate collegues.

Margaret - Funny how things like that work. Our brains are really incredible and unique.

I have a client that uses velcro for his cell phone, remote controls to the DVD and flat screen. I know why. I must spend 15-20 minutes everyday looking for all three items. I just can't see myself doing the velcro yet.

Thanks for the great post. After reading A New Earth and the Secret, I am a believer in positive energy and visualization. But funny how I needed to be reminded all the time.

BTW, can you find my big craft mat that I put "somewhere" ? I keep visualizing it in the closet and it's not there!

I'm a believer in this .... our thoughts control so much more than we know...case in point - sad true story...my father was a cancer experiment along with 9 other cancer patients at NIH...he went through numerous surguries, a coma and lost his leg along the way...the only thing that kept him going was his vision to see my mom in a smaller house she could afford, see me off to college with a car, get his finances together, and see his family one last time together....there were other things, but he got it all accomplished and then passed away...he fought to the very end...he had a vision...its something we can all do and if we really believe, it will happen....

Nice article Jessica. This happened to me the other day. I was questioning my own success, and it occurred to me my greatest success is living with me. We have a strong marriage of 23 years, and 5 children that are doing very well. Given the state of the American family today, to have a healthy functioning family is a success "...That Was There All Along. I Just Didn't See It..."
