How do search engines work? I've had my website for years, but when I type real estate agent in my city, my website isn't even in the first 17 pages (I gave up trying to find it). However, I've been on active rain for two days and now I'm number 11 in my city!!!! That's crazy! Why is my professional website no where to be found and my active rain site is so high? I have some reverse links and lots of content. Is it possible I did something wrong and google kicked me off their site? Here's my web address in case anyone wants to offer advice::

Maybe all  or some of the other sites have Search Engine Optimizer Advertising contracts Pay per click programs channeled to specific engines are common too. Jusy my $0.02

Aaron, every time I send out an email or write a blog, I mention my website.  It's no secret, the more you advertise, the more your site will work to the top of the sites.  Also, linking to other sites, along with great meta tags helps.  Good luck to you.

I think you might need to work on your meta tags, your key words, description and most important your title.  There are some great resources here to get help. Do a SEO search and you will find all kinds of help.

It is not as a result of your tagging.  It could even be the Agent Preview Graphic on the bottom of the page.  Google has been changing for the last few weeks, so there is a lot of position movement.

For a few tips that I know of.

1.   I see your page does not have any meta tags.  These alone do not do the trick however combining with other tactics it can help.
A possible source is http://webdeveloper.com/html/html_metatag_res.html

2.  Use Google tool for webmasters to help identify how your page is listed. https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/about.html
Once you verify your site under the webmaster tools (verifying you are the owner of the site) then you can see what key words they are using to catagorize and rank your site.  With this you can make adjustments to your site (content of site) and improve your listing.

3. Try and get links to your site from other key or popular sites such as your Realtor association or other organizations.
Using active rain is a great source for this.
Google uses this also to value your site and its rank.

Use these 3 tips and it will help your rankings.  Keep in mind if you want to contiue to improve your rankings you have to continue to tweak your site based on how google lists you. These options brought to you by my fabulous IT husband, James.  Isn't he wonderful!?!?!?!?

You are not kicked off Google, you do have some pages indexed (a few in the main index, the rest in supplemental results).  As has been mentioned, you could fix your metal title as that is a very important thing.  Althought meta tags aren't used much (if at all by Google), I still use them but I only use a few per page.  Each page should have it's own meta title, meta description and meta tags.

It's getting late so the above is just a start.  If you've had this site online for years there are definitely issues.  I've sent you an e-mail.
