For those of you that do not use one of those sometimes-expensive professional database services....I hope that you use your MicroSoft calendar or other computer offered calendars. When I discovered that I couldn't afford the fancy database service, I had to learn to compromise and seek some other method.
If you have a PC, then look into using the proffered calendar. It has features that work similiar to the fancy services. You can pick a date and put in the title you want to be reminded about, and then you can choose: 1. How often you get reminded, 2. How many years should the reminder go on, 3. How many days in advance of the important date you want a reminder.
For instance, I put in every birthday that I can remember or get my hands on just so I can "grow" my database. Then, I click and choose the calendar to remind me a week in advance so I can send out a birthday card or note of some kind. Then I point the calender to remind me of this date every year on the same date and it will "change the whole series." (I also use my PDA in this manner too.)
Here are a couple other hints on this same line of thought:
I print out a complete mailing list onto mailing labels at the beginning of the year. That way I can conveniently have address labels for letters or birthday notices. It also helps me see names that I really should send out something just to keep in touch with my clients.
Another small aside: I go to the big box craft stores and they usually have a whole aisle of "notes" for about $1 that are seasonally decorated. I buy about $10-15 worth of blank notes.
Have fun!!

Jill- I handwrite all my addresses. I do order nice beachy labels for return addresses. I love outlook calendar and notifiers.
