Budapest...What a Great City.

By
Real Estate Agent with Homeward Real Estate

I have had lots of questions about Budapest, so I am going to try to answer all of them today.

How  is  Budapest?

Budapest is a big city.  Nearly 2 million people live in Budapest with 1/3 living on the Buda side and 2/3 living on the Pest side.  The two parts are divided by the Danube River.  Buda is the old city, the castle district.  It is historic and charming.  I am staying at the Hilton which is a modern hotel built around the remains of a 12th century monastery.  It is wonderful to see the old architecture preserved that way. Pest is the business and shopping district. The city reminds me of a smaller, cleaner version of Paris. About 30% of the buildings in Budapest were damaged during WWII and the Germans blew up all of the bridges across the Danube before they retreated.  The Magyars have rebuilt all of the bridges and most of the buildings and churches have been restored. Jackie, I hope you're enjoying your stay in Budapest.  I was there back in 1979.  I'm sure I wouldn't recognize it if I were there now. I look forward to future reports from you.

I agree. I am currently on sabbatical in London, England and my wife ran a marathon in Budapest. By far it is one of the most beautiful cities she has seen during our two year stay here.

This is one of the places i'd like to go before I die, before i'm too old and before my teeth fall out of my face.

Wish me luck on getting there soon.
