I have had lots of questions about Budapest, so I am going to try to answer all of them today.
How is Budapest?
Budapest is a big city. Nearly 2 million people live in Budapest with 1/3 living on the Buda side and 2/3 living on the Pest side. The two parts are divided by the Danube River. Buda is the old city, the castle district. It is historic and charming. I am staying at the Hilton which is a modern hotel built around the remains of a 12th century monastery. It is wonderful to see the old architecture preserved that way. Pest is the business and shopping district. The city reminds me of a smaller, cleaner version of Paris. About 30% of the buildings in Budapest were damaged during WWII and the Germans blew up all of the bridges across the Danube before they retreated.
